Welcome to our week in review. Who does not love a long weekend? Lane Cove locals were enjoying the good weather on Saturday morning in both The Canopy and the Lane Cove Plaza. Coffee shops were packed, music was playing in the Plaza, parents and kids lined up for the Kindifarm, and there was a table tennis table for those game enough to show off their skills.
The Lane Cove Fire Station Crew were also in The Canopy talking to locals about checking their smoke detectors. Did you know that our local fire crew will come to your house and do a fire safety check and show you where to install smoke detectors for optimum performance? Read our article here.
Greta Bus Crash Tragedy – Official Donation Site
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Singelton/Cessnock community and the many other communities around Australia who lost a loved one, friend, work colleague, or teammate in the Greta Bus Tragedy over the weekend.
The NSW Government released the following press release in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Singelton.
“NSW Government and Rotary Australia announce donation fund to support families of Greta bus tragedy https://donations.rawcs.com.au/78-2022-23″
“The accident on Sunday, June 11 is a profoundly tragic event that has impacted the whole NSW community, but particularly the close-knit community of Cessnock and Singleton.
The NSW Government is committed to supporting families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy.
The fundlaunch will be co-managed by the NSW Government and Rotary Australia, and will provide benevolent relief and support to survivors, victims, and their immediate families from the events of the fatal bus accident.
Members of the public looking to support the families and injured through a donation are encouraged to visit rawcs.org.aulaunch. The fund will be able to collect and dispense swiftly to those in need.
Premier Chris Minns will make the donation from the Premier’s Discretionary Fund.
NSW Premier Chris Minns said:
“This is understandably a tragedy that has been felt right across the state.”
“When tragic events like this occur, it’s the Australian way to reach out and support one another.
“I know many people are looking at ways to support the families affected by this heartbreaking accident, and I encourage people to donate directly through the website – it’s the quickest way to get funds to those who need them most.”
Mayor of Singleton Council Sue Moore said:
“This accident has rocked our close-knit community – the ripples are being felt across Singleton as people come to terms with the scale of the loss and impact.
“I know the people of Singleton are big hearted and generous, and this fund is a straightforward way that people can show their support and know that the help will go directly to those that need it.”
Mayor of Cessnock City Council Jay Suvaal said:
“What the families of those bus passengers are going through is unimaginable.
“The people of this region have already opened their homes and their businesses to support those families who are now so desperately in need, and this fund will add another way in which anyone – in Cessnock, in Singleton and across the state – can donate a little or a lot to help.”

NSW Fire and Rescue Urges Locals to Check Their Smoke Detectors
Winter is upon us, and heaters and fireplaces are going again warming up our homes in Lane Cove again.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) are urging all Australians to check their smoke alarms as winter begins, in a bid to avoid preventable deaths and injuries in the colder months.
In the winter of 2022, there were approximately 895 fires.
During that time, FRNSW recorded 16 deaths caused by structure fires, 12 of which were ‘preventable.’ Another 87 people were injured. Smoke Alarms save lives – read our article on how to check your smoke alarms and how you can have our local fire station crew come and check out your home’s smoke alarms. Read our article here.
Buses to Replace Trains at Night and on Weekends Due to Urgent Track Work
You will have read about the Sydney Train Rail trackwork ‘biggest ever’ fix, with approximately 4000 repairs, upgrades, and restorations to equipment to be carried out.
The work will be carried out from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday over the course of a year, costing roughly $97 million and impacting about 600,000 passengers.
We have looked at how that will impact commuters using the T1 North Shore Line. The nearest train stations to Lane Cove are St Leonards (just across from the Lane Cove Council Border on the Pacific Highway) and Wollstonecraft.
