Vandals Damage Greens at Lane Cove Golf Course

Lane Cove Golf Course has been hit by a series of vandalism incidents over recent weeks, with unauthorised vehicles causing significant damage to multiple greens across the course.

Lane Cove Golf Club president John Dowey confirmed four separate incidents have now occurred, on the nights of 1 June, 2 June, 4 June and 13 June. Police reports have been made for all four incidents.

The damage has been concentrated around several key areas of the course, with greens most severely impacted near Richardson Street East and Richardson Street West.

Tyre marks from the vehicles have left significant scarring and damage. In the Cove has chosen not to publish the full images at this time to avoid encouraging similar behaviour.

The greens maintenance team has had to divert resources away from routine maintenance to carry out urgent repairs. Close to 80 plugs have already been extracted from the old 7th green and transplanted into damaged areas across the course.

Sydney Sports Management Group (SSMG), which manages the club’s facilities, has also been closely monitoring the situation.

SSMG’s Nathan Brown described the ongoing vandalism as “extremely disappointing, particularly given the time and resources required to repair the damage and maintain the course for the benefit of both members and the wider community.”

The incidents come at a particularly disappointing time for the club, which has been working to return to a new normal following the completion of the Galuwa Recreation Centre.

If you live in streets adjoining the golf course, particularly Richardson Street East and Richardson Street West, Lane Cove Golf Club is asking residents to check any available CCTV, driveway camera or dashcam footage from the nights of 1 June, 2 June, 4 June and 13 June.

Residents are also asked to report any unusual noise, vehicle activity or suspicious behaviour around the golf course after hours.
