Lane Cove Bushland & Conservation Society leads guided walks through two very different local ecologies on Sunday 20 September, with expert guides identifying native plants and sharing the history of the area along the way.
The 9am Ventemans Reach walk heads down to the river through sandstone woodland, crossing a boardwalk to reach the most extensive and diverse wetland community in Lane Cove, with views over sedge marshes and mangroves. The 11am Lovetts Reserve walk climbs the ridge south of Blackman Park for expansive river views, passing mossy sandstone cliffs, sundews and beautiful sandstone vegetation.
Each walk runs 1.5 hours and can be booked separately, though the Society recommends both to compare the river flats with the drier hillside. Both walks return to Blackman Park, where there’s a short break with toilets and picnic facilities before the second walk begins.
