People Power Stop Lane Cove, Greenwich and Hunters Hill Ferries Route Changes

Transdev (Sydney Ferry operators) was planning a major overhaul to Sydney Ferries.  The major change was the ferries servicing Lane Cove, Greenwich and Hunters Hill would terminate at Barangaroo and not Circular Quay.

This change was heavily criticised as it added longer travelling times to most commuter journies.

Today our local member Anthony Roberts sent out the following email to locals who had written to him expressing their concerns.

“Just a short time ago I received notification from the Department for Transport that the proposed changes to the F3 and F8 ferry routes will not be going ahead.

    What this means:

    • The F3 and F8 services terminating at Circular Quay will continue as per usual.
    • We will still see the investment to purchase new ferries which will be more efficient and environmentally friendly.
    • We are still in discussions about adding additional services into the network on top of the current system.

This positive news is a direct result of our community coming together and constructively working towards a shared goal. The thousands of emails, calls and notes I have received from our constituency formed the heart of our campaign to maintain the ferry services. I also want to thank the local councillors and community leaders who have helped organise the response.

I am very proud of this win today and look forward to continuing to advocate for the public transport network that our community deserves.”

    Greenwich Community Association Reaction

The Greenwich Community Association was not aware of the proposed changes until there was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald on 15 January 2020 (consultation started in November).  They mobilised their members to submit feedback and they are pleased with today’s announcement.  Resident’s Association plays an important role in lobbying and this is another example of the hard work the Greenwich Community Association puts in.
