The last term of the School year is nearly upon us. Now that some sporting actives are over, you might be looking for some new activities for the kids. Here are a few ideas.
SPORT AND FITNESS
Lane Cove Football Club and the St Michael’s Football Club have combined to hold a weekly soccer skills clinic. Last year 120 kids from u5 to u14 took part 10 weeks of training once a week with pro-coaches at Blackman.
FIRST SESSION: Tuesday 13 October
LAST SESSION: Thursday 17 December
WHERE: Blackman on the AstroTurf fields (no rain cancellations)
COST: $140 per child for 10 weeks

Gymbaroo Lane Cove and Greenwich
“GymbaROO is a parent/child educational program researched over 24 years to enhance the development of essential gross and fine motor skills in children. They also assist to inform parents/carers of the early childhood development in health, learning and behaviour. Classes are developmentally age appropriate and loads of fun! Bring your child along to crawl, creep, jump, hop, swing, roll, tumble, hang, climb, sing and dance their way to healthy physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. Each parent/carer receives a neurological hand out each week.”
Children’s Activity and special ITC offer
Everyone who refers to In the Cove while registering for Term 4 Kinder Sports will receive a Free Little Legends Rugby ball, just in time for the Rugby World Cup!
Lane Cove Taekwondo
Seems like everyone’s doing it these days – and you could too! Lane Cove Taekwondo offer classes from ages 4 to adult. Classes run during term time, and they have school holiday programs too. Rugbytots at Lane Cove
Rugbytots is a “weekly play program for children aged between 2 and 5, operating in school term. Split into two age groups, Rugbytots combines the multiple skills used in rugby in a fun, energetic and structured play program. The activities have been designed to gently encourage rugby specific skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try and much more.” Suited for all kids, 2 – 5 years. Held on Saturdays 9.00am (2-3.5 years) & 9.45am (3.5-5)
There are two local options for kids swimming lessons
- Brewer Swimming (term time only) – located at St Ignatius College, Riverview – info here
- Carlile Swimming (runs throughout the year) – located at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre – info here

EDUCATION AND LEARNING
Early Learning World – Letterland Preschool Literacy classes
Run by Early Learning World, in Lane Cove North, Letterland is a “child-friendly, multi-sensory system for teaching children to read, write and spell. The secret of its worldwide success lies in its pictogram characters and their ability to make learning fun!” More info and booking HERE
Kumon Lane Cove
Kumon is a “tutoring program, originating in Japan, in which children improve their skills in a subject (especially mathematics) by completing worksheets of increasing difficulty, led by a special instructor.”
The Lane Cove branch offers after school tutoring, four days a week. They have recently moved premises, and are now located under Hot Dollar, on Lane Cove Plaza. ITC highly recommends Kumon if you are looking for a program to give your child confidence with Maths or Reading. Find our more here
Bonjour Babies run weekly French classes – “French for fun for you and your little one! Join us for songs, games and stories in French! Give your children a bilingual head start!”
Burns Bay Dance Studios

Lane Cove Dance Academy

AppleBox Kids – Drama
AppleBox Kids run weekly drama classes, from the Living & Learning Centre on Longueville Road.

Lane Cove Bush Kids
“Connecting children and families with nature to spark a lifelong love of our environment” is Lane Cove Bush Kids motto. They run activities and events each term, details of which are regularly listed on their Facebook page. Synergy Youth Centre

‘In the Picture’ – Art Therapy
“Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy counselling that is very successful in helping people find success and happiness. It is done on a one to one basis, utilising art techniques. All behaviours happen for a reason, I can help you or your child to learn to verbalise feelings and emotions they struggle with, and to learn coping skills and strategies to aid in everyday living being better and easier. Private sessions are held in Lane Cove, I am a local myself and trained in teaching kids with special needs, as well as in Art Therapy.
