It’s that time of the year when school starts back and your child (or you) wants to be involved in Saturday or Sunday sports. Here’s the low-down on how to get involved with a Lane Cove Sporting Club.
Recommended (but not limited) to children aged 5-9.
Games and training are held on Sunday mornings at Blackman Park.
Under 9’s and up
Children play in age groups from U9 upwards. Both boys and girls teams are available.
The Cats play in the AFL Sydney Junior competition, with games held on Sunday mornings. Training is held on Wed/Thu afternoons.

The Lane Cove Tigers Junior Rugby League club are holding free ‘Come and Try’ clinic on Thursday 10th February 4 pm to 5.30 pm at Tantallon Oval in Lane Cove. The Come and Try clinic is a great way for kids to try out some skills and drills and for families to discover their local club and the age-modified games that are safe, fun and build confidence. With a proud 80 year history, Lane Cove Football Club is the largest football (soccer) club in the Lane Cove area. Lane Cove FC provides opportunities for players of all skill levels and ages, with teams from Under 6s up to Over 45s, and a strong representation of girls’ and women’s teams. As a community club, Lane Cove FC relies on the efforts of volunteers to provide services to its members. Lane Cove Football Club will be holding registration days for all age groups from Under 6s to Over 45s on Saturday 3rd February and Saturday 10th February for the 2018 season. They will have a dedicated stall set up in the Lane Cove Plaza from 7.30am – 12.30am to process new registrations and to answer any questions from interested parties. Get down to the Longueville Sporting Club for the launch of the 2018 season for Lane Cove Rugby. This will be an informal get together for all current and new players, coaches and supporters to enjoy a beer and get pumped up for the season ahead.

A community sports club in Greenwich with teams in Mixed and Women’s Football, Kids MiniRoos and Mixed Junior Football, Girl’s Junior Football, Kids NetSetGo, Junior Girls Netball and Seniors Netball.
Registration for then 2018 Football and Netball seasons is now open. A Registration Information and Sausage Sizzle will be held at Bob Campbell Oval on Sunday 4th Feb commencing at 5:00 PM where the Committee will be present to provide information for new or prospective members.
Chatswood Rangers Sports Club is seeking registrations for its Junior and Senior Football and Junior and Senior Netball teams.

· Junior Football from U6 to U18, including both Girl’s and Mixed football

We often get asked about Netball clubs in Lane Cove (by both senior and junior players). Lane Cove does not have a netball club and most junior netball is played with a school team. If you want to play senior Netball you can play with the Greenwich Sports Club, Chatswood Rangers or Willoughby United Netball Club.
Northern Suburbs Basketball Association is the place to go if you are looking to play Basketball. If you are want to join a team, just click on this page. You may have noticed that other than school courts there are no full-sized basketball courts in Lane Cove. Lane Cove Swim Club (LCSC) is a non-profit community swimming club based at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre. LCSC promotes swimming in Lane Cove at every level from recreational and fitness to elite athlete squad training for competition at local, statewide and national swimming meets. LCSC is one of the oldest swimming clubs in Australia. LCSC core activity is their Saturday morning club that conducts friendly races from 7 – 9 am in summer. Saturday morning club is a friendly social gathering for the whole family from infants to grandparents. Adults of all ages take the opportunity to race with squad swimmers and younger swimmers. It is common to see 80 year olds racing with 8 year olds.

If you or your child is playing sport, make sure you invest in a Mouth Guard.
Did you know more than 5 million teeth are knocked out during sporting activities every year? What is even worse is that it’s estimated between 30% and 50% of these injuries could have been prevented or would have been less severe had a mouthguard been worn.
Active Kids Rebate
The NSW Government will provide a $100 voucher to parents/guardians of school enrolled children. The $100 voucher can be used for registration and participation costs for sport and fitness activities. Every child (4.5 – 18 years’ old) enrolled in school from Kindergarten to Year 12 is eligible. The rebate is not means tested.
Vouchers provided are valid for redemption during the current calendar year activity program (Year 1 will commence from 31 January and expire on 31 December 2018). Vouchers shall expire at the end of the calendar year.
The voucher can be used for registration or membership fees for structured activities of no less than eight weeks’ duration that provide a moderate to vigorous level of physical activity, for example:
- sporting pursuits
- swimming lessons
- structured fitness program
- outdoor education programs
- approved active recreation (dance etc)
- equipment ordinarily provided by the provider on registration for competition.
Physical activity is defined as movement involving large muscles (e.g. running, swimming, aerobic activity). Physical activity must be planned, structured and involve repetitive bodily movement which improves or maintains physical fitness.
From 31 January 2018, parents/guardians/carers with legal responsibility of an eligible child resident in NSW will be able to download a voucher from an online platform. The platform will be run by Service NSW.
