Lane Cove Music and Cultural Centre – Music For Everyone

For many years ITC drove past a building located on Longueville Road which had a sign out the front Lane Cove Music and Cultural Centre.  What is this centre and how can you become musical or cultured?  ITC decided to find out.

What is the Lane Cove Music and Cultural Centre (LCMC)?

LCMCC is a local based “not for profit” community organisation founded by Director Robyn Mah and a group of music enthusiasts in 1994 with the brief to provide local affordable music tuition of a high standard to Lane Cove residents.
LCMC started with one tutor in the old Ladies Bowling clubhouse building at 266 Longueville Road with 6 eager string students. In 2018 LCMC now has 15 tutors all teaching various instruments and methods particularly the Suzuki Method of training which is very child friendly.
One Hundred and Eighty (180) students are now enrolled with LCMC.

The LCMC is now located on the Ground Floor of 1 Pottery Lane, Lane Cove (aka Little Street Car Park Building).  The LCMC premises have been provided  by the  Lane Cove Council.  LCMC and the Lane Cove Council have worked together for many years on establishing a purpose built music/cultural centre. The LCMC has six (6)  acoustically treated Music studios for lessons, a new office and large performance space, four (4) Grand Pianos and six (6) upright pianos.  The facilities are air conditioned and flooded with natural light.

LCMC hold regular children’s concerts, holiday workshops and community events relating mainly to music but also host events in art and language. We like to work with parents to advise them on how to commence their children on an exciting musical education journey. It is never too early to introduce children to music, finding the right tutor and best method/instrument is important.

What activities do you offer?

LCMC offers individual music lessons with great tutors. Many of our tutors hold a Master’s Degree in Music or Bachelor of Music or Early Childhood Training or have completed Suzuki Method Teacher Training Certificate 11.  Many of our tutors  have extensive industry experience as performers.
The Musical Garden and the Musical Playroom offer very popular mums, bubs and toddlers programmes on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
LCMC holds an adult Chinese conversation class for on Friday Mornings.

How Can Lane Cove Residents Find Out More Information?

Local community members are welcome to drop in and check out LCMC’s beautiful new facilities  or attend a community student recital, Suzuki group class.  You can ask to observe a class with your child. This is a great opportunity if your child is interested in commencing music lessons and are they not sure which instrument to play.

Music Lessons are available seven (7) days a week (depending on tutor availability).  The average cost for a 30 minute lesson is about $45 (note: each tutor sets their own fee so fees are variable).

[Query do you have to be a member to have lessons?]

Community Student Recitals

Beginning on 1 July 2018 LCMCC will host two (2) community student recitals per school term concert in the Lane Cove Community Centre Terrace Function Room.  The recitals will usually be held on a Sunday afternoon. Any child who plays a musical instrument in the Lane Cove Council area is welcome to perform.  These performances are always informal with the primary aim to encourage relaxed musical performance and skill development in young children and adults. These recitals help young performers to gain experience which assists in easing anxiety about public performances.

Children of all playing standards are welcome to participate. The audience is generally supportive Mums and Dads and grandparents and other family members. Each concert host 25 performers, and the LCMC Grand Piano is available on the day to best showcase all this local talent.
LCMC would love to see as many Lane Cove children/young adults come along and participate in the concerts as performers. If you have a piece you would like to perform just email LCMC and we will provide details.  The audience is also often treated to a performance by a special guest performer.

What do you have coming up?
