Stuart Leal Art Gallery Releases New Indigenous Art

Stuart Leal Art Gallery is located in the centre of Lane Cove in the Lane Cove Arcade.  Stuart has a stunning range of contemporary Indigenous Art for sale.   He commissions the art directly from the artists in the Northern Territory.  Stuart has recently added some wonderful new artwork to his range.  The artwork is stunning and worth viewing.

One of the notable additions to the Stuart Leal Gallery is Gloria Petyarre’s ‘big leaf’ Medicine Leaves.  Gloria won the coveted Wynne Prize in 1999, and has been a finalist another four times.  Gloria has also featured in the prestigious Indigenous art competition ‘Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award’.  Gloria’s works are widely collected and commonly held in the finest Aboriginal Art Collections and Museums worldwide.

You will also want to view Polly Ngale ‘Bush Plums’. Polly’s works are also very collectable and are featured in the following collections:

• Holmes a Court Collection, Perth
• The World Bank, Washington, USA

These new artworks compliment  the famous Numina Sisters range of artworks.  Gloria is their Aunty and taught the Numina sisters painting. The Numina sisters are from Utopia in the Northern Territory. Sisters Selina, Lanita, Louise, Sharron, Jacinta and Caroline, along with their mother Barbara, are all painters. The Stuart Leal Art Gallery currently features three of the six sisters – Louise, Caroline and Sharon.

One of the series featured is the Bush Medicine Series. Medicine Leaves Dreaming knowledge story is a popular theme of the Numina Sisters. Many women from the Peytre, Mambitji and Numina family name hold custody of the story.  The series is very collectible as the paintings are stunning and flamboyant. The Bush Medicine Plant is native to Australia and grows wild in Central Australia. Bush Medicine leaves are collected put into a container and boiled with water.  The paste that is extracted is mixed with Kangaroo Fat and is used for colds and flu, headaches, backaches, stomach aches or for cuts and scratches.

Do yourself a favour and visit the Stuart Leal Art Gallery to see the full range.  Just remember Christmas is not far away.
