Lane Cove News Week in Review 30 June to 6th July 2019

Welcome to our week in review, our cover photo is a picture of the Lane Cove Golf Course this morning.

Lane Cove Council Spraying Programme

This week the Lane Cove Council came under fire from residents about poor signage at parks and playgrounds notifying residents about pesticides spraying. Notification of a pesticides spraying programme was posted on the council’s website however the signage at parks were not prominent.  The sign below was at Blackman Park and was not seen until the residents were leaving the play area. Spraying also occurred at Bob Campbell Oval, the feedback we received from park users was they did not see any signage. Lane Cove Council has advised they will be working with their contractors to approve signage. Council contractors spray bindii and clover in a number of parks each year. They were undertaking Broadleaf Weed Spraying from 24 June – 5 July 2019 using Javelin Select Herbicide.

Lane Cove Locals in the News

Well done to Logie Award Winning Greenwich residents: SBS Australia Head of Sport Ken Shipp and Executive Producer of Sport Catherine Whelan had Logie success last Sunday winning the Most Outstanding Sports Coverage for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Cheers across Greenwich could be heard as friends and family screamed at their TV’s with delight. A job well done Ken and Catherine pictured here at the Logies last night.

Container Recycling Scheme

According to the recycling industry the NSW container deposit scheme is a success with the return and earn scheme. What a shame Lane Cove Council has not been able to find a place in Lane Cove for residents to return their containers. The large container return stations need to be in an outdoor area where a truck can access the station. This means that most of our car parking areas are not suitable

The Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group presented some ideas to LCC about alternatives to the stations but nothing has happened yet.  Read more here.

Lane Cove Rotary Welcomes New President

This week the new 2019/20 Lane Cove Rotary President Stephen Miller was invited to be the guest speaker and to present awards at Lane Cove Public’s end of term Maths Assembly. He entertained Years 3 to 6 with a fun presentation on the importance of primary maths. Principal Mr McKinnon really enjoyed the talk too and presented Stephen with a book token which Stephen has happily donated back to the school library. Many of the children in attendance already know ’Steve’ as they call him, as apart from a multitude of other things, he is also the school’s School Crossing Supervisor.

ADCO Constructions may be working out of hours on 8th July for the completion of a concrete pour on site. The concrete pour will commence at 7:00am, and may require out of hours works to be undertaken until the concrete pour is completed. A contra-flow and detours will be set-up on Rosenthal Avenue in order to accommodate for the delivery and completion of these works.

Golden Retrievers Going For Solo Walks

In the last three days four Golden Retrievers have been found by ITC follower.  Luckily, they have all been reunited with their families.  Just a reminder to have a collar on your dog with a phone number.  It makes it much easier to find the owner.  If the dog does not have a collar, the person who found the dog has to take the dog to a local vet.  The vet then reads the microchip.   One dog did not have a collar but had a Bloomingtails bandana.  The team at Bloomingtails reunited the dog with its owner.
