Mindarie Park Lane Cove North – Everyone Can Play

Mindarie Park Lane Cove North is Lane Cove’s newest park.  ITC visited Mindarie Park to check out the park and see some of its brilliant features.  This new inclusive playspace aligns with the Everyone Can Play in NSW guidelines to cater for all people, including disabled and able-bodied children and their Carers.

The gated playspace includes a range of swings, natural-looking play materials and equipment that is suitable for people of all abilities to enjoy. Also on-site are new BBQ facilities, toilets and Seniors fitness equipment. This is Stage One.

Where is Mindarie Park?

Mindarie Park is located at the corner of Kullah Parade and Mindarie Street.  Stage One of the Park (the inclusive playground) has been completed.  When Mindarie Park is completed it will be approximately 6,300 sqm.

This is great news for Lane Cove North. You only have to drive down Mowbray Road to see the number of new apartments and the influx of new families to Lane Cove North.

See Map below.

The park is a well thought out and planned park and includes equipment accessable for all kids.

Why is it called Mindarie Park?

Lane Cove Council asked local residents to suggest some names for park.

The following suggestions were received:

  • Ngara Place (From the Aboriginal Heritage Office) which is the Sydney language for Look (Ngara);
  • Landers Park, named after the founding family of the area;
  • Tranquillity Park;
  • Mindarie meaning “the place near which is held a ceremony” or “green water”; and
  • The Park of the North.

From these suggestions, LCC chose the name Mindarie Park due to its positive aboriginal name and its association with the existing playground area located on Mindarie Street.
