Attempted Robbery Caltex Service Station Northwood

Yesterday In the Cove’s feed was packed with people asking why there were so many police cars and a police chopper hovering around Longueville.

A man will face court today after an attempted robbery at the Caltex Longueville service station.  The service station employee did not sustain any injuries during the incident.

Police were called to the Northwood Road premises shortly after 3pm yesterday (Monday 2 September 2019).

Prior to police being called eyewitnesses have told In the Cove they saw a man shouting in Kenneth Street and allegedly abusing the passenger sitting in his blue Go Get Car. The man was wearing a red shirt and no shoes.  There are reports the male approached pedestrians walking along Kenneth Street (this has not been confirmed by police).

Once the police arrived, the driver of the Go Get Car tried to avoid the police by driving at speed through Longueville.  The driver drove past the Longueville Sporting Club, turned left and appeared to be travelling down River Road.  However, the driver of the Go Get Car turned into William Edward Street and then into the back streets of Longueville.  Longueville is a peninsula so there are very few way to exit Longueville (as anyone who has watched the fireworks on NYE in Longueville will attest).   The police appear to have thought the driver proceeded along River Road as eyewitnesses reported seeing police travelling at high speed along River Road.  Police cars were also seen in Austin Street Lane Cove.

A short time later police managed to locate the car in Longueville and the man and woman were arrested.  There were five police cars and the police helicopter involved in the chase.

The 31-year-old man was charged with shoplifting (x2), offensive conduct, robbery, driving whilst suspended and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and will appear at Hornsby Local Court today (Tuesday 3 September 2019).

The 23-year-old woman was issued with a court attendance notice for possessing a prescribed restricted substance. She will appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 25 September 2019.
