The Little Extras
Herringbone Hair Design is so incredible because of all the little extras. It’s not just a cut and blowdry with them, it’s oh-so-much-more.

A warm welcome
When you first arrive, it feels like walking in to a warm hug. The salon has such an inviting aura, smells delicious and is always filled with a positive energy. Karen and Heidi’s huge smiles met me when I walked through the doors for my first appointment and Karen showed me to my chair. I flopped down and immediately felt welcome.
Relaxation
What happened next was surprising and wonderful in equal measure. Karen placed a box of essentials oils in front of me and asked me to pick the three which stood out to me the most. Given the hurried morning I’d had – kid-wrangling, food shopping, life admin and work – I was drawn toward the words: Balance, Harmony and Insight.
After breathing in three lovely aromas, Karen asked me to pick the one I enjoyed most. I chose ‘Balance’ (no surprise there). She dabbed a few drops in to her palm, rubbed her hands together and asked me to close my eyes. I was guided to take three deep breaths while she massaged my temples, head and shoulders.
I was instantly transformed from stressed out working mama I’d been only five mins beforehand. I looked in the mirror and thought ‘mmm… this is going to be good.’
Experts at hair
We moved onto the serious business next… what did I want to do with my hair? Karen asked me all sorts of questions I’d never considered. She was genuinely interested in my thoughts and lifestyle, adding her expert advice on style, colour and the health of my hair. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, she really wants my hair to make me feel good!’.
Together we decided on a bit of a change – I’d be going short! I’d always had long blonde-ish hair and was totally dependent on my mum bun. I was nervous of how much effort it might involve to keep it looking good; but Karen reassured me I’d love it.
The offer of tea, coffee or a glass of bubbles popped up and I warmly settled for a beautiful rose and camomile blend. I’d brought my laptop to catch up on a few things while the colour went on, but Karen suggested I ditch it in favour of one of the latest mags. An offer I gladly accepted.
Experts in care
After the colour was done, I was led to the basin to wash out the foils. I reclined into a pulsing massage chair and Karen washed my hair with Alfaparf Sulphate Free Shampoo (which smelled AMAZING!). It was then I was told that Herringbone offers every client a complimentary treatment with every colour. Yippee!
The nourishing mask was massaged into my hair and scalp for a few minutes. Then I was cocooned in a brilliant hot towel before Karen gave me a decadent hand and arm massage with one of my favourite soap creams. It was all so relaxing I almost fell asleep!
Back in the chair, I was expertly cut and my previous hesitations about the maintenance of my new style were swept away as Karen took the time to talk me through some fab blowdrying and styling tips. Even adding in how I could make it look great if I had to leave home with wet hair.
My hair was beautifully coloured, cut into a fantastic new style and I felt like one million dollars – all in the space of three hours!
Putting my glasses back on, I almost cried.
