Lane Cove News Week in Review 5th to 11th January 2020

Welcome to our first week in review for the year. It’s been a tough time over the holidays seeing our fellow Australians suffer through the Bushfire crisis.  We will keep you up to date with all the generous Lane Cove businesses that are holding fundraisers.

ITC saw the call out for cash donations and decided we had to do something.  We came up with the idea of picking up dead Christmas Trees and delivering them to the Lane Cove Council depot for recycling.  We managed to raise $1800.  Also, several winners of our Lane Cove Lights comp also donated their winnings to the cause.

    Lane Cove Fires

Police are investigating two fires deliberately lit in the early hours of Saturday 11th January 2020.  More details here.

There was a house fire in Austin Street on 6th January.  Neighbours saw smoke coming from the roof of the house and quickly notified NSW Fire and Rescue.  There were no reported injuries.

    A is Gone

The Lane Cove sign is now missing an A.  Hopefully this sign has inspired the Lane Cove Council to think of a floral display or installation along Epping Road.

    Burst Water Main

Residents noticed this week that Stringybark Creek was looking a different colour.  A large water pipe was ruptured on the corner of Helen St and Huxtable Avenue. The runoff was making its way to the creek.

    Birdwood Lane

Birdwood Lane access has now been stopped.  The businesses are all accessible but you need to access them through the Lane Cove arcades.

    Business Alert

A new cafe has popped up at Mindarie Park.  It will be made permanent after Stage 2 of the park has been completed.  It is open on Weekends and in the mornings during School Holidays.

    Lane Cove Video

The Lane Cove Council has released a video all about Lane Cove.  The video shows a dog walking on the bike path without a lead – this is a strange move given how contentious the issue of dogs have been in Blackman Park.

    New Bus Shelters

Lane Cove Bus Shelters are being replaced.  Apparently the shelters do not comply with Australian Standards.

    School Holiday Activities

It’s not too late to book School Holiday camps or activities.  Check out our list of local camps and workshops here.

    Upcoming Events

Drag Bingo is coming to the Alcott this month.  More details here.

This week in review is sponsored by Apple Dental.  Apple Dental has been an ITC sponsor since we launched our website.  They also sponsor several local sporting groups.

If you’ve never really given your oral hygiene habits much thought, it might be time to learn how to clean your teeth effectively and thoroughly. Call 02 9420 5050 to book an appointment today with their hygienist Tonia for the best technics for you or click here to find out more.
