Shakespeare may be turning in his grave, but The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), a cult classic, contains all 37 of his plays – and sonnets – in just 97 minutes!
Described by the Los Angeles Herald as “Shakespeare written by Reader’s Digest, acted by Monty Python and performed at the speed of the minute waltz”, this hilarious binge of Bard – is coming to Lane Cove courtesy of Lane Cove Theatre Company. It’s part parody, part tribute, part party trick!
97 Minutes to Shakespeare Expert
Be the William Shakespeare guru in your family after just 97 minutes.
As the comedies aren’t anywhere nearly as funny as the tragedies, all sixteen have been condensed into ‘Four Weddings and a Transvestite’. The history plays are transformed into a game of football, Othello is performed in rap and Titus Andronicus becomes a TV cookery programme.
For the finale, Hamlet is staged first as a psychological exploration of Hamlet’s Ego and Ophelia’s Id, then performed in a matter of minutes and, for the finale, performed backwards.
Multi-Talented Cast
A brilliant, multi-talented cast brings the Baird to the stage and includes Logan McArthur from Lane Cove. The play is directed by Jess Davis.
Some Reviews
“What cheek! What nerve! What sheer, heavenly, unadulterated fun!” – Sunday Express.
“Forsooth, get thee to the delightfully fractured Complete Works!” – Los Angeles Herald.
