Welcome to our first week in review for a while. As we start to return to the new normal, we thought that ITC should also go back to our regular features. So here is a roundup of Lane Cove happenings in the last week.
Eating Out is Back (ish)
From Friday 15th, May 2020 Cafes and Restaurants were permitted to seat up to 10 people at a time.
It’s a difficult logistical exercise for cafes (as they don’t usually use a booking system). If you’re just grabbing a coffee, it’s still a good idea to grab a takeaway and leave the tables for people who are ordering food.
We have put together a list of cafes and restaurants that are now open for eating in. This list will be updated as we are provided with information by more eateries. Read more here.
Thank you so much Lane Cove for your support of local eateries. Most of our restaurants and cafes have traded through this difficult time. Please continue to support local. Buy Local or Bye Bye local.
Playgrounds and Outdoor Exercise Equipment
You may have noticed that playgrounds and outdoor equipment are no longer covered in tape. Since Friday 15th May 2020 residents are permitted to reuse playgrounds and exercise equipment.
Just remember to social distance and also take some hand sanitiser with you when you go out.
According to an article in Science Daily, the COVID Virus can stay on steel for a few days.
Lane Cove Council May Meeting Monday 18th May 2020
The Lane Cove Council’s May Meeting is on Monday 18th May 2020.
The Lane Cove Council has delivered another blow to transparent and open government by refusing to change their mind about a virtual public forum where members of the public can make oral submissions.
The agenda items are listed in this article and include relocating the off-leash dog area from Kingsford Smith Oval to Shaw Park in Longueville. Shaw Park is surrounded by homes and there is limited public parking on narrow streets.
Lane Cove Council Calling Residents
We have had numerous people contact ITC and ask if the Lane Cove Council is calling to see how our residents are going and to update their email database. Several people have asked if the calls are hoax calls. Others are saying they are concerned about giving out their private information to a cold caller.
Yes, Lane Cove Council is calling to see how you are.
To make sure you are providing personal information to Lane Cove Council you may want to ask for the person’s name and then call the LCC switchboard and ask to speak to the person who called you. The switchboard number is 9911 3555.
Closed or Closing
Smart Bargains (the discount variety shop) near The Longueville Hotel will be closing at the end of May 2020. They have been in Lane Cove for 8 years. They will be open in Brookvale.
Chic Scissors has closed their Lane Cove Plaza premises after 40 years in Lane Cove. They have relocated and if you would like to contact them their number is 0409 711 633
Open or Opening
There is a new barbershop in town and it is located in the same arcade as MBE Lane Cove and Kasina Korean Eatery. It is located at Shop 7/83 Longueville Road. You can call them on 8065 3464 for an appointment. You can follow them on Instagram here.
Pawer Pet Studio, a pet grooming business is opening on Longueville Road next to Pottery Green Bakers. This will add to our other grooming services Furever Pets Grooming and Bloomingtails Dog Grooming and Darling Paws Grooming Boutique and the pet groomer in Lane Cove West Shops.
You may not know this but Lane Cove LOVES animals.
ITC knows as we are being inundated with people submitting photos of their dogs and cats to be featured as Dog or Cat of the Day. If you would like your dog or cat to be featured as dog/cat of the day please email [email protected]

Crime and Incident Report
This week our roving reporters (who both live in central Lane Cove) told us:
“Hi there, just wanted to let Lane Covians know last night (Friday 15th May) someone was trying unlocked front doors in my apartment block about four in the morning. Called police they didn’t find them but people need to double-check their locks!”
“On Sunday 17th May 2020 at 5:50 am I saw two Caucasian men going through an apartment blocks letterboxes. I called the police straight away but I’m not sure of any outcome!”
Our cover photo is the new paving leading to The Canopy. Stage 2 of The Canopy will be opening on 13th June 2020 (although ITC has heard that this date maybe a few days earlier as fit-out is progressing quicker than expected). Find out more here.
