Sneak Peek at ALDI’s Lane Cove Only Special Buys

A little over ten years ago, ITC can remember dropping Miss ITC off at school and then driving straight to the new Woolworths in Lane Cove.  It seems a bit pathetic to be so excited about a supermarket opening, but it was slim pickings before Woolies opened.  Coles Lane Cove was a small-format store and did not have a vast range.

ITC is having that same feeling about ALDI and the new bigger format Coles Supermarket opening in The Canopy.

Aldi was to open on Wednesday 10th June 2020.  However, an ALDI Australia Spokesperson has advised ITC:

“Due to lift access issues, unfortunately, ALDI Lane Cove will not be opening on Wednesday, June 10 as planned. We look forward to bringing the ALDI shopping experience, including planned Special Buys, to Lane Cove residents at 8:30 am on Wednesday, June 17. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. ”

The lift is an internal lift and not the public lifts.

Coles will open on 8th July 2020.

Three supermarkets in Lane Cove!!

So what will ALDI Lane Cove be like?

Alex Foster, Managing Director of New South Wales, ALDI Australia, says:

“At ALDI, we are proud to call ourselves “Good Different”. We offer a supermarket experience that is like no other in Australia, and it’s our differences that allow us to bring unbeatable value to our customers every day.

“We’re excited to be opening our new store in Lane Cove and look forward to showing local residents the difference ALDI can make to their wallets and lifestyles.”

ALDI Lane Cove will be supported by a team of 15-20 permanent full and part-time employees”.

When ITC posted on our Facebook page that ALDI was looking for staff, it was a very popular post, let’s hope some locals secured jobs.

New Format

ALDI Lane Cove will feature several recently introduced innovations that will offer an enhanced shopping experience for customers, with better product displays, improved navigation and a modern interior store design.

New features include redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays, as well as extended energy-efficient chillers. The store has energy-efficient LED lighting. ALDI also promises improved point-of-sale displays and store signage.

“While we’re delighted to be introducing these innovations, we want our customers to know they won’t lead to higher prices,” said Alex Foster. “Low prices are a big deal for ALDI. In fact, we refuse to be beaten on price. This is our fundamental point of difference and one we will never give away.”

Lane Cove ALDI Special Buys

From 8 am on Wednesday 10th June, ALDI Lane Cove will provide the community with award-winning grocery products, and popular Special Buys, together with fresh fruit, vegetables and bread delivered daily.

To celebrate the opening of ALDI Lane Cove, there will be several unique Special Buys on offer, which will not be available collectively in any other store. ALDI’s Special Buys offer a surprising and unexpected collection of products, across a range of categories like skiing, gardening, cooking or entertaining.  We asked ALDI for a sneak peek of the special buys.  Here they are!!

Special Buys have become incredibly popular with Australian shoppers and are just one-way ALDI distinguishes itself from other supermarkets. They appear in store every Wednesday and Saturday, and customers are given a preview of the products one week before they are in-store via ALDI’s catalogue, e-newsletter, app and website.

Social Distancing

If you saw the queue outside the Lane Cove Library when it re-opened, you will know that social distancing is an issue in Lane Cove.

ALDI has advised they will have social distancing measures in place, including 1.5-metre social distancing floor markers at the checkouts and hand sanitizer station at the store’s entrance. There will also be extra security guards present on opening day to assist with the flow of customers into the store.   We are all excited that ALDI is coming to Lane Cove but remember to keep your distance.

Opening Hours

The new store will be located on the Lower Ground, Shop 2, The Canopy 2-20 Rosenthal Avenue, Lane Cove. The store will be open from 8 am on opening morning, Wednesday 10th June. Regular trading hours will be 8:30 – 8 pm Monday to Sunday, with extended hours until 9 pm Thursday.  The Canopy has car parking for nearly 500 cars.  You can take the lift to the ground floor.  There is plenty of seniors parking.

How to Shop at Aldi

ITC has only been to an ALDI store a couple of times (not because we don’t love a bargain) but nearly 99.999999999999% of our shopping is done in Lane Cove as we want to be able to support local and businesses that employ locals and spend money at a variety of stores and Lane Cove eateries.  ITC was in North Sydney attending a seminar and popped into ALDI and had no idea you had to pack your own groceries (which does seem to speed things up at the cash register). Below are some tips on how to shop at ALDI.

Supporting the Lane Cove Community

On ALDI’s website, they state:

“We know that we are only as strong as the communities in which we operate. We will always support our local communities through high-quality employment opportunities, long-term supplier relationships, and by partnering with local charities and community groups.” ITC will be contacting them to discuss how they can help Sydney Community Services (which does so much work with the elderly in our community) and Delvena Women’s Refuge.
