Welcome to our week in review.

Lane Cove Council

The Lane Cove Council held its last meeting for the year on Monday 7th December 2020.  It was a marathon session with the meeting closing at 10.59 pm (meetings must finish by 11.00 pm or a resolution must be moved to extend the meeting past 11.00 pm).

First Steps Towards a Roundabout on Northwood/River Road

The Lane Cove Council resolved to:

  1. delegate authority to the General Manager to negotiate, up to the limit outlined in a confidential report, the purchase of 194 River Road, Northwood to facilitate the construction of the Northwood/River Road Roundabout;
  2. The purchase be conditional of the receipt of final design approval from TFNSW;
  3. Should the acquisition proceed, Lane Cove Council adjust the 2020/2021 to fund the purchase from the Property Acquisition Reserve and include in the 2021/22 Budget funding for construction of the project.

Cancellation of The Lane Cove Ferry

Lane Cove Council resolved to:

  1. Lobby Transport for NSW to continue to financially assist the operator of the Lane Cove ferry or explore Sydney Ferries operating the Lane Cove ferry line, as commuters face longer bus journeys which are not comparable alternatives to the ferry service.
  2. Seek the assistance of the Hon. Anthony Roberts, Member for Lane Cove, with this matter.
  3. Seek the assistance of the Minister for Transport, the Hon. Andrew Constance, with this matter.
  4. Inform Mr Trent Zimmerman MP of Council’s desired outcomes.

An article appeared in today’s Sun Herald about the Lane Cove Ferry Cancellation.  You can read the article here.

Fresh Christmas Trees Lane Cove

There is a worldwide shortage of Real Christmas Trees. There are a few reasons for this in Australia, some of the Christmas Tree farms suffered droughts and then fire and because we are not travelling overseas this year many more are at home for Christmas and plastic trees are not the go anymore for many.  Our roving reporters have told us that they have not been able to find any Christmas Trees in Lane Cove.  The Scouts will be selling them at Artarmon Bunnings – but many people have pre-ordered them – click here to pre-order.

More Details on Lovetts Reserve

Lovetts Reserve is located in Lane Cove West and is one of the most popular bushwalking tracks in Lane Cove. During COVID19 lockdown its popularity soared with Lane Cove residents discovering a beautiful bushwalk overlooking the Lane Cove River. Lovetts Reserve has also been named, by ITC’s expert running coach Andy Smith, the number one bush trail run in Lane Cove.  We mentioned in last week’s Lane Cove News week in review that we were investigating the prior use of the land near Lovett’s Reserve after the EPA issued a preliminary contamination notice.  Find out more here.
