Lane Cove News Week in Review 18th to 24th April 2021

Welcome to our week in review.

ANZAC Day 2021

For the first time, the ANZAC Day ceremony was held in The Canopy.  This Canopy has two flag poles, so both the Australian and New Zealand Flag were flown for the first time at a Lane Cove ANZAC Day service.  The service also included the Australian National Anthem and the New Zealand National Anthem.  It was one of the biggest crowds ITC has seen for an ANZAC Day service in a while.  The Last Post was haunting (see the video below).

Each year the Lane Cove RSL Sub Branch invites a Lane Cove Resident to talk about a relative who has served in the military.  This year Evelyn Gaye (Gaye) Doak spoke about her step-father William John Leslie (Jack) Bailey Read the speech here.

Lane Cove Rocks Out

The Jack Jones concert at The Canopy was held on Friday night.  There was praise for his voice, but the overall consensus was the sound was way too loud and sound levels need to be monitored more for the next concert.

More Police for Chatswood Police Station

We have been advised by Anthony Roberts’ office that 8 new police recruits will be stationed at the Chatswood Police Station.

The NSW Government announced it was investing $583 million to introduce 1500 extra police over four years to enhance community safety across NSW.

“Member for Lane Cove Anthony Roberts welcomed the new police officers to the North Shore District.

“Some of the Force’s newest probationary constables have elected to come back to serve this community while others have chosen to start their careers in the North Shore”, Mr Roberts said.

“On behalf of the community, I am pleased to be able to welcome our newest police officers,”

Let’s hope this means more police patrols in Lane Cove!!!

Northwood Roundabout

The Lane Cove Council has confirmed that the Northwood Road Roundabout has been approved.

They have advised as follows:

“TfNSW has given its approval for the proposed roundabout on River Road/Northwood Road. This project will address long term safety issues at this intersection. Funding has been included in the 2021/22 Draft Budget to construct the roundabout and acquire the property at 194 River Road which will include the realignment of the former Stephenson Street access road, refer below. These negotiations are close to finalisation and will allow the project to proceed in the early part of 2022. The new Stevenson Street will include existing connections and or new connections to the sport and recreation facility should this project proceed to construction, the new Road will be delivered in stages and extended down to the new public car park.”

More Work on the Diddy Intersection

We mentioned last week, that work was going ahead on the notorious Diddy intersection and work seemed to ramp up this week.
