Mama Hong’s Viet Lane Cove – Bringing Dishes Inspired by Mama

Mama Hong’s Vietnamese is a welcome addition to the Lane Cove Village.  They are located at the entrance of the Lane Cove Arcade.

Mama Hong’s is about providing authentic homemade Vietnamese classics with a focus on customer service – a cross between a Vietnamese bakery and a cafe! They have vegetarian/vegan options and also cater to food allergies.

It’s not a great time to start a new eatery, and there have been struggles.  They have had to close their store in Concord and focus on Lane Cove.   We thought we would find out more about Mama Hong’s

How Did Mama Hong’s Viet Start?

Ann Ngo told ITC that she started Mama Hong’w Viet with her cousin, Dominic.

We are 2 Westy kids who grew up in Cabramatta, the Vietnam of Sydney. We’ve been spoiled for choice, and now we want to share that with the rest of Sydney.

We don’t have uni degrees, but we know how to work hard and with love.

Our parents escaped the war in Vietnam for a chance at a better life. Through their sacrifices, we have been blessed with the opportunity to do this.

Mama Hong’s is a homage to our mums and the wealth of love, knowledge, and good food they have provided to us, despite the lack they experienced themselves.

This is to confirm that all the hardship was completely worth it, and my cousin and I work hard to make sure their legacy remains for future generations to come.

Mama Hong is a true representation of Australia – a nation that has embraced so many different cultures to become our own unique country. We spent over 10 years working in the hospitality industry, and our family back in Vietnam also own well-known restaurants, so food is in our blood.

What is the Dish Lane Cove Loves?

They’re all quite popular in their own rights, but our crowning glory is Mum’s traditional homemade Pho – this dish is so well-loved in our family; it’s the dish that inspired Mama Hong’s.

Why did you choose Lane Cove?

Previous to Mama Hong’s, we opened and operated a cafe in Waverton for 5 years. We love the community vibe on the lower north shore. The people are super supportive, friendly, and appreciative of our food!

We had our eye on this shop 5 years ago, but it didn’t work out at the time, and after so many years, it came back to us, so we definitely see this as meant to be. And it has been great since day 1!

How Do We Order?

At the moment we don’t have a phone line installed.

We refuse to use UberEats and other such delivery services because of their profit-eating commission fees.

So, for now, the best way is to private message on our Insta or on Facebook.

We had plans to do dine-in for dinner, but this was put on hold because of the lockdowns – once everything is back to ‘Normal,’ keep an eye out for special things!
