Police Launch Two Searches to Find a Man Hiding in Greenwich

Just after midday today (Saturday 12 February 2022), police attended Panorama Road, Lane Cove, after reports three people were seen trespassing through the backyards of nearby homes.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command found a man hiding in a backyard.

The 35-year-old was arrested and during a search, officers located letters and credit cards in his possession.

He was taken to Chatswood Police Station and charged with entering inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 2 March 2022.

Police also spoke to a 27-year-old woman, who was found in possession of credit cards. She was issued a court attendance notice for goods in custody suspected of being stolen and is expected to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 30 March 2022.

First Search

Despite an extensive search of the area, with the assistance of PolAir and the Dog Unit, a third person could not be located.  PolAir hovered over the Lane Cove Golf Course (see below) and also Northwood and Greenwich.

PolAir asked local residents to look for a man with tattoos.  See video below

Second Search at 5 pm

Just after 5 pm, police received a further call to Gore Street, Greenwich after a person – reportedly matching the description of the earlier man – was seen running from the backyard of a home.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, wearing a black shirt, shorts and shoes, with tattoos on his arms.

A police operation is involving officers from North Shore Police Area Command, Dog Unit, and PolAir concentrated on Bent Street Greenwich.  They later concentrated on the area near the Greenwich Flying Squadron.  Eyewitnesses told ITC that water police also joined in the search.

One eyewitness told ITC that the PolAir Chopper crew made the following announcement during the second search:

“male hiding in the bush we see you last opportunity to present yourself”

Police advised ITC at 8.13 pm that the operation had concluded but the third person was not found.

NSW Police Media Unit told ITC that the man was not armed.
