Lane Cove Theatre Company’s 2022 Season Kicks Off with a Feel Good Play – Violet 13 – 29 May 2022

After a year of delays, lock-downs and frustration, Lane Cove Theatre Company’s 2022 season finally ‘takes off’ with Violet a play to bring laughter and tears – and gorgeous music – to Lane Cove locals in May 2022.

The multi-award-winning musical Violet follows a scarred woman as she embarks on a cross-country bus trip to be healed by a minister and discovers the true meaning of beauty along the way.

The themes of strength, love, awareness, and growth make Violet the perfect theatre treat.

What is Violet About?

As a girl, Violet was struck by a wayward axe blade when her father was chopping wood, leaving her with a visible scar across her face.

With enough money finally saved, she’s travelling across the Deep South in 1964 towards a miracle — the healing touch of a TV evangelist whom she believes will make her beautiful. And – if she does not succeed in having her physical scar healed – Violet may be able to repair those scars that lie deeper than her skin.

Directed by Kathryn Thomas (assisted by Lucy Koschel) with musical direction by Stephen Dula, Violet stars Chelsea Taylor in the title role, along with Cremorne‘s Lindford Gilmour, Tommy Green, 12 yo Taylor Swan of East Ryde as ‘Young Violet’, Lane Cove‘s Trent Gardiner, Manly’s Miriam Rihani, Lane Cove North‘s Sam Howes as the Preacher, Isaac Downey and West Pymble‘s Carmel Paris Rodriguez.

From the composer of Fun Home, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Caroline, or Change comes a road story with heart. New York Times critic Charles Isherwood praised Jeanine Tesori’s “best” and “most accessible” music, rich with flavours of country, gospel, blues and honky-tonk rock.

Winner of the Drama Critics’ Circle Award and the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical and nominated for a Tony award, Violet’s redemptive story and beautiful score will warm your spirit and touch your heart.
