Collective Four’s ‘Misconceptions Reset at Gallery Lane Cove

If you’ve never been to Gallery Lane Cove (located across from the Library), you should pop in and see one of their latest exhibitions. Entry is free.

Sculptures celebrating drawing, the world of women, a road trip in miniature stills and the fragility of being human are some of the themes you will see in the Collective Four’s ‘Misconceptions Reset’ exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove, 6 July – 6 August 2022

Bellingen-based artists, Jackie Lee, Shelley O’Keefe, Philip Senior and Kathy Taylor formed as a group three years ago. Creating a dialogue where art was expressed in the context of everyday experiences and responses to contemporary world issues was an important starting point in developing a dynamic which strengthened and encouraged their practice.

Bellingen is a riverside town nestled in the lush Bellinger Valley between the coast and the Dorrigo Plateau on the scenic Waterfall Way, less than 30 minutes from Coffs Harbour. It’s home to a large number of people who enjoy a laid-back and creative, artistic or alternative lifestyle. Like Lane Cove has the Greenwich Village Arts Trail, they have a similar arts trail

Like so many artists experience, lockdown and cancellation occurred just as they were packing their car for the 2021 exhibition. Disappointed, they decided to ‘Reset’ the exhibition and a new flurry of activity followed. So now, finally on show they hope everyone will rug up, brace the cold and come and connect to some interesting and stimulating works.

The artists will be there on opening night and look forward to talking to you. Kathy Taylor will do a short performance drawing around her sculpture of a thousand pencils and if you miss the opening there is also the artist’s discussion panel on the last Saturday of the exhibition.

Enrol in an Art Class or Workshop – Gallery Lane Cove

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is located in the building directly across from the Lane Cove Library. Melbourne might have the Paris End of Collins Street, but Lane Cove has the Cultural Precinct on Longueville Road (Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios,  Lane Cove Library and the Living and Learning Centre, all located on Longueville Road).

Gallery Lane Cove provides the whole community with opportunities to attend art workshops and term classes in printmaking (including screen printing), sewing, jewellery making, knitting, life drawing, painting and pottery. ITC is incredibly excited about going to pottery/ceramic classes (ITC became obsessed with pottery after watching the Great British Pottery Throwdown – like MasterChef for potters).

If you would like to know the courses coming up and be notified when there is a new course Email Gallery Lane Cove and put 2022 Workshops in the subject line. They will then get back to you and let you know what is coming up. Find out more here.

They are currently taking bookings for their Winter School Holiday Programme
