The Alcott Lane Cove – Perfect Plate Winners

The Alcott Lane Cove has won the North Western Metropolitan Perfect Plate award with their Sesame Grilled Lamb Rump.

What is the Perfect Plate Award?

The Perfect Plate Awards is the NSW club industry’s premier cooking competition. The Award showcases the incredible quality and variety of food at clubs, highlighting the many talented chefs in the industry and driving patrons into venues.

Local clubs have been attracting talented chefs and are no longer a “parma only” venue.

The Perfect Plate Award is judged entirely by diners. This means that every club had an equal opportunity to win.  More than 160 clubs participated in the competition.

The Alcott’s diners were asked to scan a unique QR code after tasting the Sesame Grilled Lamb Rump and score the dish between one and five.

The club with the highest average score at the end of the competition was the winner in each region.

The Sesame Grilled Lamb Rump seemed to go down well with The Alcott’s customers.

The Award was presented on 21 July 2022.  Celebrity chef Manu Feildel gave the Alcott team their award.  Coincidentally the Awards Master of Ceremonies was comedian Simon Kennedy from Lane Cove.

Meet The Alcott’s Head Chef and Sous Chef

The Alcott’s Head Chef is Simon Flanders. Simon trained in London in some of the best Five Star Star Hotels and Harvey Nichols 5th Floor. He moved to Sydney and worked with Guillaume Brahimi at Quay, The Tattersalls Club, Vault Restaurant, The Ivy, and Executive Chef at RACA on Macquarie Street.

Rohan Talisayon is the Sous Chef and works closely with Simon.  Rohan comes
from a Filipino background rich in food and culture. He has been in the industry for nearly 13 years, with most of his career as a chef surrounded by authentic Mediterranean cuisine; it’s what he knows best.

What Inspired the Dish?

The Dish came to life after a casual discussion between Head Chef Simon and Sous Chef Rohan. They aimed to showcase their interpretation of a modern Lamb Mediterranean experience.  They worked on flavours and textures.  The smokiness comes from the chargrilled eggplant mash and slow-roasted spices.  The nuttiness comes from the tahini and the sweetness and sourness from pomegranate.  It’s all tied together with fresh herbs, crispy golden fried onions and roasted pinenuts.

The Alcott team takes pride in only using quality ingredients. If the product is not good, we won’t use or serve it. Ingredients are sourced from a select few reputable local suppliers that only provide premium products.

Feedback on the Perfect Plate

The Alcott told ITC they received numerous compliments about the perfect plate and other items on their menu from their customers. The compliments are either passed on from management or front of house or directly told to the kitchen staff by the customers – one of the benefits of working in an open kitchen.

Winning Was a Surprise

The Alcott Lane Cove told ITC they did not expect to win as it was the first time they had entered the Perfect Plate Awards. With the support from Operations Manager Tresna Gilliss and the whole team at the Alcott, they decided to give it a go and see how The Alcott compared as a club/venue against other clubs in NSW. It could not have been done without the entire team of chefs and the guidance of their head chef constantly working hard to ensure food is kept to a standard.

Sesame Grilled Lamb Rump is Still On the Menu
