If you’ve never been to Gallery Lane Cove (located across from the Library), you should pop in and see one of their latest exhibitions. Entry is free.

Moving from Dark to Light by Kirana Haag

The exhibition runs from 26 October to 19 November 2022

Kirana Haag was born in Germany.

Kirana says she was born into a family of intellectuals and felt alienated from them.

She moved to Australia in 1996, where she became a full-time artist based in Sydney.

It’s been her life’s quest to find and create a sense of belonging and connection and, through her art to offer a way for others to find themselves, to belong and connect.

Driven to express these deep heart bonds, she says her work explores our inner realms, bringing them to life as exquisite representations of our multi-dimensional selves. Tangible works that communicate – without words – the human qualities and energies that connect us all.

    Kirana says:

“Painting for me is a physical and ethereal process, a fast and strong dance with light. I have been referred to as a midwife of dreams, a light dancer. It is the freedom to express very big and to be “loud”, to touch and to be real; I enjoy most in my art. My artworks are the diaries of my inner eyes and ears, of the energies above and beyond this one reality we call the “real world”. I am a channel, a feeling, hearing, seeing “phone line” with a paintbrush on the end of it to make the invisible, visible. With my paint-stained hands and my bare feet, my purpose on this planet is to birth a binding kinship between the art of your heart and a visual feast.

For me, painting is a physical force and an ethereal process –a fast, strong dance with light. I travel as much as possible to remote places to immerse myself in painting for as long as possible, sometimes months. My simple existence there – stripped of any distractions – opens a richer connection to my inner world; a connection within myself that allows my paintings to come through strongly and at the same time in a raw and vulnerable way.”

Her Gallery Lane Cove exhibition is developed from the wish to create beauty from the difficulties of a painful childhood using an experimental way of painting for the artist.

Kirana Haag seeks to transfer grief and past trauma into a healed, love-filled and warm experience, wishing to become part of the natural movement from dark to light.

Open Bite Printmakers & Southern Highlands Printmakers

This exhibition showcases an innovative print exchange between Open Bite Printmakers and the Southern Highland Printmakers.

Forty-Four artists from Open Bite Printmakers and Southern Highland Printmakers participated in a print exchange project during 2020-2021. Now Open Bite Printmakers are hosting an exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove showing the resulting paired prints.

Each artist has created two unique prints: one reflecting their own practice and interests and a second responding to another artist’s work.

Open Bite Printmakers are a group of Sydney-based artists whose mission is to facilitate, develop and educate in the field of printmaking. They are always looking to exhibit their diverse range of printmaking techniques.

The Southern Highland Printmakers was formed in 1993 to foster printmaking in the area. They currently have 23 exhibiting members. Over the years, the SHP has built a reputation for quality and innovation, with members exhibiting widely – locally, nationally and internationally. Many also teach printmaking in seminars and Arts Centres programmes.

Enrol in an Art Class or Workshop – Gallery Lane Cove

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is located in the building directly across from the Lane Cove Library. Melbourne might have the Paris End of Collins Street, but Lane Cove has the Cultural Precinct on Longueville Road (Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios,  Lane Cove Library and the Living and Learning Centre, all located on Longueville Road).

Gallery Lane Cove provides the whole community with opportunities to attend art workshops and term classes in printmaking (including screen printing), sewing, jewellery making, knitting, life drawing, painting and pottery. ITC is incredibly excited about going to pottery/ceramic classes (ITC became obsessed with pottery after watching the Great British Pottery Throwdown – like MasterChef for potters).
