Crime Report 30 December 2022 to 5 Jan 2023

During the New Year period someone was busy vandalizing cars in Lane Cove North and remember, never send money to a Nigerian lover.

    Vandalism

    A roving reporter advised us:

“After NYE night I found my car with broken mirror. I know, for majority, that is minor damage, but I was wondering about extent of vandalism that was made that night. The car was parked as always in Lane Cove North as we decided to celebrate NYE at home, so damage wasn’t traffic related. With family we took a walk around neighbourhood and we’ve discovered that on Kara and Ralston Street there were 8 cars having mirrors pushed forward and some badly damaged!”

Did anyone else notice this damage or any other vandalism – email us with detail at [email protected]

    Vandalism or Ravens?

A roving reporter advised the following:

“Hi everyone. My mum Tutti parked in the Canopy Carpark, pink level, to pop to Coles and shops between about 4 – 5pm. In that time someone has ripped one of her windscreen wipers off and completely bent the other one and ripped off the rubber. Did anyone witness anything? Any idea if there’s CCTV so we can catch the perpetrator of this pathetic crime?”

A few people were quick to point out that ravens have been seen in The Canopy car park.  Ravens have been attacking cars in Lane Cove – read more here.

    E76776141 – Extortion – Crows Nest – 30/12/2023

Police have commenced an investigation after intimate images and videos were posted on a social media platform without the victim’s consent.

Police have been told the Crows Nest resident had been engaging in an online relationship with a male whom they believe resides in Nigeria. Throughout the relationship it was common for the pair to exchange intimate images and videos of each other.

On 30th December 2022 the Crows Nest resident received a “friend” request from another account on the social media platform and immediately recognised several intimate videos and images of themselves on the profile. Theses images and videos were the same ones that the victim was sharing with the male from Nigeria.

The individual engaged with the account and was told they had to make a payment of $16,000 into an account to prevent any further intimate images/videos being posted.  The victim was unable to meet these demands and as such blocked the account and reported the matter to police.

As police investigate, it is a timely reminder to the community to be cautious of who you are talking to and interaction with online. It is advisable not to share intimate images online, especially not with people you have not met in person.
