Lane Cove Thai Eatery
A new Thai restaurant called Lane Cove Thai Eatery has opened in the Village Shopping Centre near NiBu Cafe. The owners already own a Thai restaurant in Potts Point called Llankelly Thai. Lane Cove Chat by ITC members has given the new restaurant the thumbs up.

Grill’d
Grill’d Lane Cove is now open. They are located in the old TAB building across from the Lane Cove Post Office.
Pure Food Co – located in Harris Farm
Harris Farm Lane Cove has a new concession located around the corner from their butcher called Pure Food Co!
They have been operating out of Harris Farm Potts Point for a few years and have expanded to the Lane Cove store.
They focus on Natural Slow Cooked Meals and fresh salads. Apparently, a must-try is the lentils matched up with roasted pumpkin.
The food is ready to eat and you can order from UberEats and soon online for pickup. They also provide catering for events!
If you head to the fridge section near Pure Food Co. you will find their ready-made meals to take home and heat up like Moroccan chicken pies, spanakopita and moussaka.
Chipop Chicken
ITC recently met with the owners of Chipop Chicken – we did not realise they had purchased the previous Korean Fried Chicken business located in the Bakers Delight/Cake Man Arcade and had opened a brand new business.
Their menu is Korean Fried Chicken plus an assortment of your favourite Korean dishes. They are located UPSTAIRS and you can enter via the stairs opposite Pure Flowers or the door near The Cake Man. Some locals have tried the food and given it a thumbs up. If you have a pram or need assistance walking upstairs, there is a lift.
The Men’s Grooming
The Men’s Grooming is now open at Lane Cove Market Square. They are next door to @groundcaffelanecove. They are located where The Source Bulk Foods used to be – the premises has been subdivided.
ProfessioNail Lane Cove
The other section of the old Source Bulk Foods store is now Lane Cove Professionail (it is part of the ProfessioNail group (there is one in Chatswood).
Spotless Ovens & BBQ
We have just heard about a business called Spotless Ovens & BBQ
They are a local family-run business.
Cleaning ovens is difficult, messy and a time-consuming chore. At Spotless, they have oven and BBQ cleaning experience and will bring the sparkle to any dark, greasy ovens, & BBQ’s out there. They know how to dismantle your oven and to clean it to the very best standards.

Lash Nature & Beauty has opened in the same arcade as Four Frogs Crêperie and Be.U Natural

Bangkok Sideway Express
Bangkok Sidewalk Express, which specialises in Bangkok Street Food, is located at
Shop 2/705 Mowbray Road, Lane Cove North (not far from Mowbray Cellars).
Organica
Organica has opened at St Leonard’s Square.
Organic has cafes already in Leichhardt and Concord. They describe the business as follows:

Is this a Business situated in Lane Cove? You may or may not know that St Leonards Square is located in the Lane Cove Council area (nearly on the edge of the council area where three council areas merge!!). It is part of the area called St Leonards South (which at one time was also referred to as East Greenwich).
We wrote about St Leonards Square after it first opened – we will update this article (when we get time -it’s hard to keep on top of it all), but the article has details about parking and how you get there. Read the article here.
Opening Soon (ish)
The following are scheduled to be opened in the next few months – however, you would have probably noticed that fit-out works are taking longer due to labour and material availability issues.
Barrel One Coffee Roasters is coming to Lane Cove – they will be located across from the Post Office next to Unwined Espresso Bar.
They operate coffee shops in Potts Point, Manly, Brookvale, Cromer and Manly. They have started their fitout and hope to be open in August 2023.
Mowbrew
Signs have gone up at the old chook shop on Mowbray Rd Lane Cove North for a new cafe called Mowbrew. It was due to open on 10 May 2023, but our roving reporters have advised us that it has not opened.
Kin – Cafe and Wine Bar
A Development Application has been lodged for a new cafe and wine bar in the Harris Farm Building.
The cafe is described in the DA as:
“The Café Wine Bar in Shop 3, 56-60 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove, Sydney, NSW, will be a cosy and intimate breakfast, brunch, and dining establishment that seats approximately 50 people.
The café wine bar, which will be operational seven days a week, shall offer breakfast and lunch services. Commencing from the spring of 2023, the establishment will aim to offer its tapas and dinner service on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.”
The outside area will take over some of the space that Harris Farm is using for flower sales.
Chambers Cellars
ITC noticed that Chambers Cellars have started their fit-out in the Harris Farm Building. They were due to open in late 2022. The business is located on the up driveway corner side.
Yo-Chi Frozen Yoghurt
Yo-Chi Frozen Yogurt is coming to Lane Cove. They will be located in Lane Cove Market Square where Roll’d hoardings used to be. Roll’d is not coming to Lane Cove.
Yo-Chi describes their business on their website as:
“Premium self-serve frozen yogurt and toppings to make you happy. Yo–Chi is proudly home to the highest quality self-serve frozen yogurt.”
Closed/Closing
Lane Cove St George Bank Closes
A Westpac spokesperson advised ITC:
“Our Westpac & St.George teams will be working together under one roof in Lane Cove from 14 March 2023. Co-locations are an important part of our strategy, bringing two branches together under one roof to maintain a strong presence for both brands, ensuring our customers in the region will continue to have access to all the services they have today, supported by the same people. Our new Westpac & St.George Lane Cove co-location branch will open at the site of our current Westpac branch at 138-140 Longueville Rd in March.”
ANZ Bank to Close in Lane Cove
ANZ has advised their customers that they will be closing the Lane Cove branch on 7 June 2023. The ATM machine will also be removed.
A spokesperson for ANZ told ITC the following:
- “ANZ customers have fee-free access to the atmx network, and can also withdraw cash at major supermarkets in Lane Cove and Australia-wide.
- ANZ customers will be able to access over the counter services at the nearby Chatswood branch”
A recent global report by the US-based financial technology company FIS found that Australia’s cash payments represent just 6% of the value of point-of-sale transactions in Australia. Their research also found that Australians are among the least likely in the world to pay with cash.
The Finance Sector Union (FSU) has called on the banks to stop further closures in metropolitan and regional areas until the Senate enquiry into Regional Bank Closures is finished.
The FSU has specifically noted the ANZ Lane Cove branch in their press release below:
“The Finance Sector Union (FSU) is calling on the major banks to stop closing bank branches in metropolitan and regional areas while a Senate Inquiry into Regional Branch Closures is underway.
As more branches were identified for closure, FSU National Secretary Julia Angrisano said the National Australia Bank was refusing to pause regional branch closures.
“The NAB’s behaviour is outrageous and completely out of step with community expectations and in breach of its social license,” Ms Angrisano said.
NAB refuses to acknowledge community concerns and has announced branches at Jeparit and Inverloch in Victoria will close. Branches at Boonah, Qld and Queanbeyan, NSW will also be shut down. Each NAB branch will close in July.
In addition, the CBA has notified the FSU it will close branches at Bull Creek in WA and Aspley, Qld in June with the loss of 12 jobs.
ANZ has notified the FSU it will close Clarkson in WA, Patterson Lakes in Victoria and Lane Cove in NSW with the loss of 15 jobs in June.
Both the CBA and ANZ have committed to pausing regional closures while the Inquiry continues.
“The major banks are making massive profits and yet they continue to shut down branches and they don’t care about customers and businesses who are impacted by these closures,” Ms Angrisano said.
“The morale of bank workers is at rock bottom as they wait to hear if their branch and their job is on the hit list.”
“The FSU believes the banks should be compelled to pause all closures, in metropolitan and regional areas, while the Senate Inquiry is underway.”
“All Australians deserve to have access to the full range of financial services no matter where they live.”
Two Jays Burger Bar Closed
Two Jays Burger in The Village Shopping Centre (across the road from Harris Farm) closed due to staff shortages. They have been unable to find enough staff for their operations on the lower North Shore. The Lane Cove Thai Eatery is now the tenant.
Rebranded/New Owners
La Provence
La Provence has a new owner – Barry. La Provence is located on Burns Bay Road (not far from The Burns Bay Bookery).
They have a new coffee supplier ONA.

Soulful Fitness
Soulful Fitness has a new owner and a new manager. Keith Flowers has a pilates studio in Bathurst and when Amanda Bracks, the previous owner, decided to sell the studio, Keith saw Soulful Fitness as a good fit with his existing business.
Launch Events
After 30 years in business under The Region Professionals, Founder and Lane Cove Local Ella Elias changed the agency name to Ella Elias Property Group. Lane Cove Coles at The Canopy
Coles Lane Cove in The Canopy (or Lane Cove Park, as Coles insist on calling it) has changed its business hours. They are now open from 7 am (not 6 am) and close at 10 pm (not midnight). This impacts some of our local small businesses that shop for supplies from Coles.
If you’re an early morning shopper, you will have to readjust to 7.00 am.
New Coles and More parking in St Leonards
On 22 March 2023, a new Coles opened at Mall 88 at 88 Christie Street, St Leonards. Unfortunately, they had to close for a few weeks after a pipe bust on 9 April 2023. Read more here.
According to Shopping Centre News:
“Set to be a lifestyle destination for both locals and visitors, Mall 88 provides an open air plaza and dining precinct, with a combination of cafés, alfresco dining and a laneway eat-street, in addition to a public library and medical centre, across four floors, in the heart of St Leonards.
As the centrepiece of recently completed 88 by JQZ development, Mall 88 is the area’s first modern retail precinct that incorporates a civic plaza and public library, according to Colliers’ Managing Director of Real Estate Management, Julia Batterley.”

Coles Supermarket is the anchor tenant.
The Car Park located in Mall 88 is a Lane Cove Council-owned car park with EV charging and free parking for up to two hours. It will also be parking for Wadanggari Park, speciality stores and the new St Leonards Library, due to open later this year.
The access to the car park is via Lithgow Street.
This arrangement is similar to the Lane Cove Market Square layout – Lane Cove Council operates the Car Park but is not involved in the leasing and operation of Lane Cove Market Square. The Canopy is fully owned and operated by Lane Cove Council.

Primary School for Years K to 6 in Belrose, Sydney
John Colet School ( Primary School ) is a multi-faith, co-ed, independent K-6 school, located within a peaceful bushland setting in Belrose, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Comprised of two classes at each year level, our focus is on the development of character, attention, and values, which are the basis of academic achievement.
Alongside the core NSW syllabus, the curriculum includes Shakespeare, weekly Philosophy classes, Sanskrit, Choral singing and an enriched Art program. For the development of character and emotional awareness, the children are introduced to simple exercises in mindfulness and inner stillness.
