Lane Cove School Zone Parking Fines

Over the weekend, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Lane Cove was second on the list of the most parking fines per school in the Sydney and Wollongong areas. They calculated there were 37 fines per school for the period 1 July 2022 to 30 May 2023.

Dog Attack Statistics

An article in the Wentworth Courier published on 20 June 2023 notes that dog attacks are on the rise and the reason is being attributed to dogs acquired during the COVID lockdown who did not attend puppy training or have a chance to socialise.  The report notes that in the period 1 January 2023 to 30 March 2023, Lane Cove Council reported three dog attacks to the Office of Local Government.

A Dog attack is defined as any incident where a dog rushes, attacks, bites, harasses or chases any person or animal (other than vermin), whether or not injury is caused to the person or animal.

A serious attack is defined as where a person was involved and required medical treatment or hospitalisation.  A less serious attack is where a person was involved but did not require medical treatment.

The total number of dogs listed may not be accurate as owners move and don’t update their details.

In March 2023, there were 1 640 more dogs in Lane Cove than there were in March  2019.

The most dog attacks reported by the Lane Cove Council was in the period April to June 2022; 7 Dog Attacks were reported.

Lane Cove Crime Stats and NSW Crime Stats

The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Reports (BOSCAR) produces a quarterly and annual report examining trends in crime reported to or detected by the NSW Police Force. The data is extracted from the Computerised Operational Policing System of the NSW Police Force.

BOSCAR has released crime statistics for the period April 2022 to March 2023

The report notes an increase in motor vehicle thefts in regional areas.

The report also has crime stats by LGA and we have the Lane Cove stats listed in our article. Unfortunately, in the last five years in Lane Cove, there has been an increase in domestic violence-related assaults The 5-year trend and average annual per cent change (April 2018 to March 2023) is up 11.3%

The Voice Referendum

Crime, Accidents and Incidents

Accidents

On 19 June 2023, M2 citybound lanes were closed due to a multi-vehicle crash at the entrance of the Lane Cove tunnel. Drivers were told to exit at Epping Rd.

Fire and Rescue NSW reported a Multi-vehicle accident involving two trucks, six cars and a bus at the tunnel entrance. Only one person was taken to the hospital.

Assault Police – Lindfield – 09/06/2023

A 38-year-old Lindfield man has been charged with three offences and will face Hornsby Local Court later in the month.

At 10:00 pm on Thursday, the 8th of June, police responded to reports that the 38-year-old was harassing members of the public and acting in an aggressive manner on Lindfield Avenue, Lindfield. Police located the male and had a conversation with him.  A short time later, police offered to drive the male home to his address, which was a short distance away.

Police will allege that as the male was escorted to the police vehicle, he became hostile and allegedly took hold of one of the police officers and used his knee to strike the officer in the groin.  He then proceeded to struggle with police forcing an officer through a glass panel of a bus shelter.  As a result of this, the officer sustained several cuts to the hand that required treatment in hospital.

Once police restrained the man, it will be alleged that the male made a number of threats to kill the police officers at the scene. The male was conveyed to Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with “Assault police officer in the execution of duty cause actual bodily harm”, “Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty” and “Intimidate police officer in execution of duty”.

The Lindfield man was refused bail by police and faced Hornsby Local Court the following day. The man is due to re-appear before Hornsby Local Court on the 28th of June.

Possess Prohibited Drug – North Sydney – 11/06/2023

An Auburn man will face Manly Local Court in August after allegedly being found in possession of a prohibited drug in North Sydney.

On Sunday the 11th of June, police were conducting an operation at a licenced premises in North Sydney targeting the possession and supply of prohibited drugs.  A drug detection dog was used during this operation.

About 4:00pm police overheard the Auburn male discussing with an associate whether a drug detection dog would be present at the location. A short time later, police will allege the drug detection dog approached the male and made a positive indication for the presence of prohibited drugs.

Police subsequently searched this male and during the search police will allege they located a vial containing white powder as well as an amount of cash and two mobile phones.

The male was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for “Possess Prohibited Drug”. Investigations are continuing in relation to the cash and mobile phones located in the search.

Drive Whilst Suspended – Neutral Bay – 11/06/2023

A 57-year-old North Balgowlah man has been charged after allegedly driving while his license was suspended.

At 2:30am on Wednesday the 11th of June, police stopped a silver Porsche on Merlin Street, Neutral Bay. Police spoke with the North Balgowlah man who was driving the vehicle and subjected him to a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result. Police conducted checks on the male’s license which allegedly revealed it was suspended until the 22nd of June 2023.

The male was issued with a Court Attendance Notice and will face Manly Local Court on the 22nd of June 2023.

Attempt Break and Enter – Castlecrag – 13/06/2023

Three males, one from Raby and two from Seven Hills, have been arrested and charged after an incident in Castlecrag in the early hours of Tuesday the 13th of June.

About 2.20am police will allege the three males attempted to gain access to a property on Linden Way, Castlecrag. The homeowner was awake at the time and was alerted to the presence of the males via his home security system.  The homeowner called out to the males who fled the scene in an allegedly stolen Volkswagen Tiguan.

A short time later, police stopped the vehicle on Edinburgh Road, Castlecrag where police will allege the three males tried to flee. They were arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station.

All three males were charged with “Enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence”, “Participate criminal group contribute criminal activity”, “Face disguised with intent to commit indictable offence” and “Take and drive/be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner”.

The three males were all bail refused and appeared at Hornsby Local Court on the 14th of June 2023.
