Lane Cove Community Bands Turn 60 – Help Celebrate with Them at a Diamond Anniversary Concert at The Concourse

Lane Cove Community Bands (LCCB) is celebrating its 60th year in fine style with a special Diamond Anniversary Concert on Sunday, 20th August 2023, at the Concourse, Chatswood.

It will be LCCBs first time using this large, prestigious venue. With plenty of room and very reasonable ticket prices, join the fun, bring all your friends and support this special anniversary.

Five ensembles will entertain the audience with a wonderful variety of music, from classical to jazz, musicals to marches and more. Each of LCCB’s three concert bands will premier a composition written and conducted by Australia’s Dr Ralph Hultgren.

The concert promises to be a glittery gala occasion, especially as the audience is invited to dust off and wear their bling in honour of the diamond theme.

And as if that’s not enough excitement, LCCBs stunning new logo will be proudly on display at the concert. The logo coincides with the name change from Lane Cove Concert Band to Lane Cove Community Bands.

It stylistically represents features which our members value highly. Such features include feelings of belonging, friendship, respect for local Aboriginal heritage, a sense of place (particularly related to the Lane Cove River), service to the Lane Cove Council area and of course, performance and music.

Another cause for the ongoing celebration year is the award to LCCB’s President, Michelle Casiglia as Lane Cove Council’s 2023 Citizen of the Year. The organisation has flourished under Michelle’s leadership and emerged stronger than ever from the huge challenges of the Covid Pandemic.

Turning sixty inevitably prompts reflection on LCCB’s history. During those six decades, Lane Cove Community Bands Inc. has always been there in its various incarnations, providing a musical outlet for hundreds of aspiring musicians.

The suburb of Lane Cove experienced extraordinary growth leading to the development of the municipal youth band through the vision of forward-thinking Rotarians in 1963.

The initial brass band evolved into a concert band after amalgamation with Ryde Youth Band in 1972.  From 1989-2004 the band transitioned into an adult band, and members increased considerably.

From 2008, adult beginner programs rapidly expanded, which counteracted dwindling community members alongside many more school band programs. Today the organisation has over 200 members, many of whom play in multiple ensembles and take up multiple instruments.

Tickets are now on sale for the LCCB 60th Anniversary Concert. All tickets are $29.50 (including venue booking fees and afternoon tea)
