Lane Cove Fun Run 2023 – Community Spirit in Action

The Lane Cove Fun Run 2023 was a resounding success with more than 2120 registrations for the two races at Kingsford Smith Oval.

They raised just over $5,000 for Sydney Community Services and over $50,000 for Lane Cove Public School P&C.  What an amazing result!

A perfect warm and sunny day provided a stunning backdrop to the day’s events: a 5K race for the serious runners; the 2K LONGueville Family Dash and the coming together of local extra-curricular activity groups, businesses and food stalls.

Organised on behalf of Lane Cove Public School P&C by Race Director Lara Wehby, Head of Sponsorships & Marketing Renee Maxwell (from ITC) and Community Relations Manager & P&C President Caleb Taylor. This team created another successful event working together for the second year in a row

It Takes More Than a Village….

Lara Wehby, who was at the helm for the second time this year, says the Fun Run was a huge success due to the army of 70 volunteers (many of whom weren’t connected to the P&C and just came from the local community) and with the assistance of The Timing Guys (who ran the actual races).

This was the sixth year Lane Cove Council has backed the Fun Run and was on hand to organise the traffic management plan & waste management.

A huge thank you goes to the Longueville community for supporting the road closures during the morning.

    Donations and sponsors

The event was taken to the next level with the generous support of the sponsors.

The entire event raised approximately $55,000.

This year’s Platinum Sponsor was Audi Alto Artarmon, Gold sponsor was Rumble, Silver Sponsors were  Raine and Horne Lower North Shore, The Foot Group, JBS Physio and Bloomingtails, while the bronze sponsors included Four Frogs, Vision Personal Lane Cove Orthodontics, Tier 1 PlumbingWell Run Consulting, Captain Cook Cruises, Multistyle Painting & Decorating.

Active Digital created the website and the late entries. JDP Electrical Donated their time before and during the race to make sure all the power was working and safely used.

Lane Cove Junior Rugby Union generously handed out Zooper Doopers as well!

Last but not least – In The Cove was the media partner and we donated free advertising and promotion of the event.

    Stalls

In addition to the sponsorship stalls there was also food providers included OMG Donuts, Copper Drop Coffee, Boujee Boards and Four Frogs.

Lane Cove Cats did a wonderful job on the sausage sizzle and games in the no dogs zone, Lane Cove Rotary, Tipsy Jam, Sydney Community Services, Yellow Brick Road Lane Cove and SumHIT Crows Nest also took part on the oval.

Captain Cook Cruises set up a kid’s zone with face painting beside the Lane cove Public School P&C Lemonade Stand.

    Giving

Race fees covered the cost of extensive road closures, RMS safety marshals, St John’s Ambulance and official race timing and bibs.

Sydney Community Services will receive $5,000 from the Fun Run, to go with the $1,900 donated as part of the registration.  The remainder will go to the Lane Cove Public School P&C to be used for Lane Cove Public School.

Lara Wehby said “We had record numbers of volunteers from the school and the wider community. We have raised $50k for the LCPS P&C to put towards funds for Lane Cove Public School.

This year we have seen so many new volunteers help in different ways from promotions at the canopy, organising the store room, proof reading emails, helping with bib collection and then all the jobs on the day.

This event is not just a great fundraiser for the school, it brings us all together. My favorite part is meeting so many different people and getting to know them.

I will be stepping down as Race Director for next year, but will continue to support the new Race Director, in whatever format that may take.

If you are interested in being involved in the committee next year, please reach out to me, and I can tell you all about the different ways.”
