Lane Cove Locals In the News

ITC’s very own Yumi and her gorgeous son Caleb were featured on The Project discussing Williams Syndrome. The Project saw ITC’s article on Caleb and wanted to follow up.   More information on Williams Syndrome is here.

The Lane Cove Community Men’s Shed was featured on Channel 10’s “Studio 10” morning show to celebrate Men’s Shed Week.

Studio 10’s fun-loving roving reporter, Daniel Doody, filmed several live crosses during the morning.

He interviewed Ted Donnelly, the Shed movement’s “grandfather”, one of the pioneers of Men’s Sheds in Australia.

“Doods” also interviewed local Shed President Peter Stidston about the importance of Men’s Sheds in improving older men’s well-being and the work the local Shed undertakes for the community.

Recent Shed member Marek Lis sai that “Doods” in action was extraordinary to watch. What a pro. Made the shy blokes come out of their shells and crack a few smiles.”

You can watch the segment here.

Have Your Say –  Parks in Lane Cove

Lane Cove Council is asking for feedback on the following parks/playgrounds. Have your say here.

DA Lodged for Demolition of 62 Cliff Road Northwood

At around 10:50 p.m. on 3 September 2022, sirens could be heard throughout Lane Cove as fire crews responded to a 62 Cliff Road Northwood fire. Over thirty calls were made to Triple000, alerting NSW Fire and Rescue to the blaze.

Over 50 firefighters took just under an hour to control the fire, which had engulfed the home, causing the roof and other parts of the house to collapse.

On 12 January 2023, Steve Nassif, 69, pleaded not guilty to destroying the historic 62 Cliff Road Northwood property by arson in September at the Campbelltown Local Court. NSW police will allege that Mr Nassif has business links to the owner of the neighbouring Northwood home, fund manager and property tycoon Ouyang “Owen” Chen, who is not accused of any wrongdoing.

A year later, the owner of 62 Cliff Road had lodged a DA to demolish the building. The background article is here.

Business Alert

There is a new yoga business in Lane Cove for kids and teens!

It is called Yoga with Mausmi.

Mausmi teaches yoga and meditation to help shape the body and mind. Classes are offered every Saturday at 9:15 am – 10 am.

She is currently developing her new website, so you can send her a Facebook DM or email her at [email protected] with any questions.

Lane Cove Sport

Well done to Madeleine Caspers from Lane Cove, who has been selected in the junior Matildas Squad.

Look out for Lane Cove’s Angus Gardner, who is refereeing some of the matches at the Rugby World Cup.

It will be a big AFL Grand Final Day for two Lane Cove Cats AFL Club auskickers.

This year, Aliska Reitano from the Lane Cove Cats is one of twenty-three lucky recruits for Team NAB AFL Auskick; they will have the honour of presenting a premiership medal.

In the lead-up to the 2023 Toyota AFL Grand Final, Aliksa had a unique opportunity to recruit her friend Amelie Carey to Team NAB AFL Auskick.

Along with the other recruits, they will be taken on the ultimate three-day footy experience, all thanks to NAB!

As the third team in town, the recruits will attend a dedicated Team NAB AFL Auskick jumper presentation, walk alongside the stars in the Grand Final Parade, watch on from prime MCG seats as the two teams battle in the 2023 Toyota Grand Final and finally present a premiership medal to the winning team.

A dream experience for any young Aussie footy fan.

The NAB initiative celebrates Aussie kids through grassroots footy who love to play the game.

You Can Now Recycle Soft Toys From Home

Great news: RecycleSmart is now taking soft toys to recycle them. It’s one of the most complex items to recycle!!

They will be delivered to their textile recovery partners, Upcycle4Better, who will clean and repair them to support 1-World Charity Shops and partner retailers, or if they cannot extend their lives as soft toys, the material will be recycled.

They are collecting soft toys of all shapes and levels of fluffiness; they just have to fit inside your usual 40x40x20cm grocery bags.

Find out more about Recyclesmart here.
