Christmas is coming, and if you want to impress family and friends, then start with shopping for fresh ingredients. When it comes to fruit, vegetable and deli items, it is worth a trip to Figtree Greengrocers.
Figtree Greengrocers has been servicing the Lane Cove Community for over 40 years.
They pride themselves on quality with the finest produce full of flavour.
“Don’t waste your money on fruit and veg that after 2 days it ends up in the bin! Forget about the Rest and come back to Figtree for the best!”
Figtree Greengrocers is a family-owned business that prides itself on being hands-on.
Here are nine reasons to shop at Figtree Greengrocers.
They Hand Select their Products from Flemington Markets
Six days a week, every day of the year (except public holidays), the team from Figtree Greengrocers arrive at Flemington Markets at 3 am and start hand-picking products for you.
When we say hand-picking, we mean hand-picked.
Sam might look through 30 boxes to find enough produce he likes for four boxes. Mick has been going to the markets for 70 years!!
As the produce is selected every day, they only buy what they need.
Last week a customer came into the shop and told the team that they had been away for a month and came back and could still eat the iceberg lettuce they had left in the fridge. As they say, quality does not cost, it pays.
ITC has been told by friends that they used to buy their fruit and veg at Coles and Woolies, but they don’t last long and all then all they are only good for is the compost bin – so they switched to Figtree Greengrocers.
Award Winning Greengrocer
Figtree Greengrocers have won numerous awards and has been a finalist in some prestigious awards. They have been a finalist in the Local Business Awards several times.
In 2023 Figtree Greegrocers was a finalist in the Better Choice Retailer of the Year Awards.
- Store Appearance
- Customer service
- Produce quality, range and freshness
- Product knowledge and culinary execution
- Merchandising and branding
This is what the Fresh Awards had to say about Figtree Greengrocer:
“Proprietor Michael Cessario, together with his sons Joe, Sam and Damian, have run this snazzy greengrocer since 2009. They have worked tirelessly to finesse their store presentation, range and service to distinguish themselves as providores of quality service and fruit and vegetables.
Figtree Greengrocer has a broad range of market fresh produce and an impressive assortment of gourmet groceries. The atmosphere is friendly and the ambiance relaxing. Nothing is too much trouble for this team; they deliver on service, quality, and value for money and total shopping experience.”
Customer Service
They also have exceptional customer service (where else do you have someone carry your groceries to your car?).
Jo told ITC:
“We believe in good old-fashioned service and taking care of our customers. We greet them with a smile, speak to them about the family and take their groceries to the car.
We work in the store six days a week, go to the markets every day to buy the freshest produce for our customers, and never compromise on quality. If a customer wants a particular item, we can get it in the next day. For example a customer wanted edible flowers – we had them in the next day.”
Plenty of Parking
You can park undercover near the store, or there is street parking or a car park across the street.
They Support Small Producers and Local Producers
Jo from Figtree Greengrocers is always on the lookout for new and exciting products.
He stocks produce from locals like To Be Frank and Corrinne’s Chimichurri.
While you are Figtree Greengrocer, you can pop into Hummerstons Meat.
You Can Buy Magnificent Food Trays
Did you know Figtree Greengrocer makes fruit platters to order? You will know it’s always going to be the freshest fruit!!!
They Donate Produce to Community Groups
Each week they donate to OzHarvest, and every Friday morning, they fill up Norma Tracey’s car with fruit and vegetables.
Norma works with Koolyangarra Aboriginal Family Centre. The Centre is an Aboriginal services hub running Aboriginal programs and providing a base for outreach services in the Penrith area. It is part of Nepean Community and Neighbourhood Services (NCNS).
Services include but are not limited to playgroups, girl’s dance groups, women’s groups, men’s groups, carer support groups, art groups, family support, sport and recreation, young men’s mentoring programs, parenting workshops, young mums’ group, boxing academy and cultural programs. You can find out more here if you would like to help with Norma’s toy and book drive.
They Have a Brilliant Range of Christmas Goodies
If you need a Secret Santa, stocking filler, or a host or hostess gift, look no further than a fruit basket or some of their delicious chocolates, nougats or gingerbread goods.
They also have glace cherries and other goodies you may want for that award-winning Christmas Cake you make every year!!
Their fresh Christmas Trees arrive on December 5th – so you can grab one on the weekend and start decorating.
So if you have not been up to Figtree Greengrocers we highly recommend you pop in and say hi to the guys. Remember – Quality Does Not Cost it Pays.
If you are like Mr ITC and do love to shop there – then the team at Figtree Greengrocers wishes you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
