Meet Audrea Pi, a local mum of four kids who re-started the Junior Jivers playgroup at St Aiden’s, Longueville after it was closed down due to COVID.
Audrea tirelessly volunteers her time running weekly playgroups as well as school holiday family playgroups where older siblings can join in, too.
ITC recently interviewed her to get to know another amazing local in our area.
Where is your favourite place in Lane Cove?
Woodford Bay bush walk! It’s a tiny little bush walk from Woodford Bay to Lucretia Baths, which is what makes it so fabulous for little legs (kids!) and squeezing it in after dinner.
There are a few special spots along the walk I take our kids when I want to have a one on one chat with them, one is known in our household as the ‘bum shaped seats’ (they are natural rockpools).
What was the reason for starting a playgroup in Longueville?
I love people! And community. We can be busy and even sociable, but sometimes we can still feel lonely.
My deep hope for our little playgroup is that anyone who attends (parents, grandparents, carers) will not feel alone and will find a connection to people who can walk beside them, even if it’s just for that day or moment.
Playgroup is just as much for the parents and carers as it is for the kids. Of course, we also have loads of fun with the kids – this term, we are doing a different science experiment each week. St Aidan’s church supports our playgroup, so it can be free and community service – all are welcome.
Tell Us a Funny Story About Your Time in Lane Cove
You might see me wandering aimlessly around the Canopy or Woolies carpark, and that’s because I often forget where I’ve parked my car(!) Invariably I will bump into someone, have a conversation and then continue the search for my car. I seem to have the best chats in carparks!
Is There a Local Who Has Inspired You?
Hajar from Lane Cove Public School P&C! Isn’t she just wonderful?
She champions multiculturalism at school and has established one of my favourite events of the year—the World Food Fair at LCPS.
There is something really special about food—it connects people, it’s generational, great conversations are had over food, and you just can’t be angry when you’re eating a great meal! Thanks, Hajar!
Junior Jivers Playgroup Has Now Resumed for Term 2
