Lane Cove News Week in Review 5th June to 12th June 2024

Welcome to our week-in-review.

The Sydney Swans Visit Lane Cove

Last Wednesday afternoon, the Sydney Swans visited the Lane Cove Public School and then spent an afternoon with the Lane Cove Cats (see our cover photo).  Usually, when the Swans send players, there is one big name and a few reserve players.  This time, they sent out the big guns with names like Heywood and McDonald.   They also had time for all creatures, great and small.

Check out the adorable video below, which the Swans posted after their visit to Lane Cove Public School. One of the kids passed on a message for Isaac Heeny.

Update on Lane Cove Market Square Lifts and Travellators

In April 2024, ITC reported that the lifts and travellators were being upgraded at Lane Cove Market Square. ITC had met with the owners and the property manager to voice concerns over the number of times they were out of action.

The property manager has advised that they are halfway through the upgrade and that the travellators will be upgraded one by one in the next couple of weeks, with at least one travellator out of commission at a time.  Read more here.

Coles Limits Customers to Two Egg Cartons Per Person

The following signs have been placed in all Coles stores except WA:

“Due to a shortage of supply of eggs, we have introduced a temporary limit of two items per customer/ transaction.”

“This will help maintain availability and support as many customers as possible.

“Thank you for your patience; we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

So you may not be able to make a pavlova, but then there is always pavlova magic (if they still sell that).

Sydney Water

There have been reports of burst water mains at Pheonix Street and Burns Bay Road.  ITC has been advised that reports have been made to Sydney Water.  ITC asked Sydney Water why there was a delay in fixing up these issues and a spokesperson for Sydney Water advised ITC:

“Sydney Water has responded to reports of a leak on Phoenix Street, Lane Cove.

Network technicians identified a problem on the main and have since returned for further scoping.

There is currently no interruption to water services for nearby properties.

Due to the wet weather impacting our area of operations and a high influx of work, the issue has been logged and will be attended to as soon as possible.”

Local and Independent News Associaton Collective Fundraising Campaign Ends

Last week, the Local and Independent News Association (LINA) recognised that local news publishers like In the Cove needed assistance and launched the National Collective Fundraising Week for newsrooms. It was a national movement of newsrooms calling on their local communities for support.

The In the Cove team thanks everyone for their financial support and, more importantly, their kind words – those gestures are appreciated.
