Lane Cove Council Bushcare Program Nominated for 2024 North Shore Volunteer Team of the Year
The Lane Cove Council Bushcare Program is a finalist in the 2024 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards. This dedicated team of volunteers has been recognized for their significant contribution to environmental conservation in the region, and their efforts are now being celebrated alongside other exceptional volunteers from across New South Wales.
Over 200 residents currently support Lane Cove Bushcare and the Community Nursery.
In October 2024 the Stringybark Creek Bushcare group officially turned thirty, a remarkable achievement. It was the first Bushcare group formed, and five original members are still actively involved.
The Council program, which brings together community members to care for and restore local bushland areas, plays a crucial role in maintaining the natural beauty and ecological health of Lane Cove’s beloved bushland. Volunteers in the Bushcare Program work tirelessly to protect and preserve native flora and fauna, providing valuable environmental education and fostering a stronger connection between the community and nature.
Gemma Rygate, CEO of the Centre for Volunteering, praised the program for its impact. “The Lane Cove Council Bushcare Program is an inspiring example of how volunteers are working together to protect our environment and create lasting positive change. Volunteers across NSW contribute over $178 billion in social and economic benefits, and this team is an important part of that effort,” Ms. Rygate said.
The 2024 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards Gala will take place on Tuesday, December 10, in Sydney. The event will celebrate the extraordinary efforts of volunteers who are making a tangible difference in their communities.
Good luck to all our wonderful Bushcare volunteers!
