When we were kids, money felt real. You earned it through babysitting, mowing lawns, helping neighbours, or setting up a good old-fashioned lemonade stand or garage sale. You handled notes and coins (probably stored it in a piggybank or hidden spot in your room) and you quickly learned that making a dollar wasn’t a given.
Most parents today have probably attempted to explain the value of a dollar to their kids — that money doesn’t grow on trees and it doesn’t magically appear in your bank account. For us adults, growing up in a world of cash made it easier to understand that money was a tangible thing, not something floating in a digital cloud.
That’s why it’s so exciting to see young people today creating their own business ideas and throwing all that youthful energy and imagination into something real. Whether they’re selling handmade crafts, whipping up treats, or showcasing a talent in art, sport or performance — it’s genuinely impressive and inspiring to watch the next generation of doers and dreamers in action.
To support and harness that creativity, innovation and community spirit Tara Events is hosting the first annual Kidpreneur Fest on Sunday, 16 November from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Lane cove Canopy in collaboration with Lane Cove Council.

Behind the Idea: A Chat with the Organisers
We spoke with Mausmi Lata, one of the founders of Tara Events, who created Kidpreneur Fest alongside Anindita Pal.

They approached Lane Cove Council and proposed to collaborate to bring this inspiring new event to life.
“Tara Events believes every child has a spark — ideas, creativity and imagination — but they rarely get a real platform to express it,” Mausmi says.
“Kidpreneur Fest was created to give kids a space to showcase their talent, build confidence, and experience entrepreneurship in a fun, safe community environment.”
She adds that the festival aims to teach children real-world skills such as communication, pricing, teamwork, branding and creative problem-solving – all through play and participation.
Why It Matters for the Community
“Kidpreneur Fest brings the community together by creating a space where families can connect and support each other,” Mausmi explains.
“It helps the community discover young local talents and celebrate them publicly. By buying from the kids, community members directly encourage and motivate them — and that builds neighbourhood pride.”
The event also promotes sustainability and mindful creativity, with a focus on reusability and eco-friendly thinking.

Big Plans for the Future
The Tara Events team hopes to make Kidpreneur Fest an annual celebration.
“Our goal is to grow it bigger each year by including more children, more schools, and more local communities,” Mausmi says.
“In the future, we want to introduce workshops, mentorship programs and special challenges to help kids develop their entrepreneurial skills even further.”
This year, children will even have the opportunity to present their ideas on The Canopy screen, and a few special interviews will take place — including a chat with the Lane Cove Quiz Master.
“We’d love to hear from any kid champions in Lane Cove who want to share their stories and inspire others,” Mausmi adds. “We’ll be interviewing some of them live on stage!”

If you Buy Us a Coffee, it’s actually helping to pay the ITC Team.
Yes, we do support local businesses by drinking coffee—but there’s only so much caffeine we can handle!
We launched our Buy Us a Coffee campaign to help keep local news free and to grow our small team of three local mums who work part-time to bring you up-to-date news, traffic alerts, incidents, and events. We’re also thrilled to have Walkley Award nominee Jack Kelly writing alongside ITC founder Jacky Barker.
Every contribution—big or small—helps us continue to serve the Lane Cove community.
“Local newsrooms play a vital role in keeping communities informed and engaged with the decisions that affect them… Strong local reporting doesn’t just inform; it fosters public participation and strengthens civic engagement.”
