    Under NSW trading laws, most major retailers are closed on Christmas Day, while Boxing Day and New Year’s Day usually operate with reduced hours.

    Lane Cove Council & Essential Services

    Lane Cove Council Offices

    Council will be closed from 25 December 2025 and will reopen at 9:00 am on 5 January 2026.

    In the lead-up to the break, Council will operate from 9:00 am–12:00 pm on 19 December 2025, 9:00 am–5:00 pm on 22–23 December, and 9:00 am–12:00 pm on 24 December 2025.

    After-hours emergency assistance:

    Lane Cove Council’s emergency line 9911 3555 operates 24/7 during the holiday period.

    Waste and Recycling

    Bins will be collected on the normal collection days through public holidays

    The Community Recycling Centre will be closed on 24 December 2025 and re-open on 2 January 2026.

    Lane Cove Return and Earn is closed from 25 December 2025 and re-open 30 December 2025. It will be closed again on New Year’s Eve and re-open on 2 January 2025.

    Other Useful Holiday Info

    • Petrol stations & convenience stores: Most remain open, though hours may vary
    • Public transport: Public holiday timetables apply. Buses replace metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Use trains between Epping or Chatswood and Sydenham between 2.00 am on 27 December 2025 and 31 December 2025 at 2.00 am.
    • Double demerit points: 12 consecutive days from 24 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, inclusive, over the Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day period.
