Lane Cove Things To Do on Australia Day 2026

This year, Australia Day falls on a Monday – so it is a Long Weekend.

In 2023, The National Australia Day Council noted:

“For some, Australia Day is a day to celebrate all the opportunities provided by living in a free, multicultural society. For others, it’s a chance to reflect on their own citizenship and what it means to be Australian. And for many, January 26 represents a day of sadness, mourning and reminder of colonisation.”

Australia Day Lane Cove Shops, Cafes, and Restaurants

Woolworths, Coles and Harris Farm will open on Australia Day. We will publish a list of coffee shops and other open locations on the public holiday soon.

Australia Day at The Canopy

Start your Australia Day at The Canopy as Lane Cove Council welcomes Lane Cove’s newest citizens in this special Citizenship Ceremony from 8:00 am. There will be special guest speakers, and this year, the Lane Cove’s Australia Day Ambassador is Samantha Hollier-James.

Samantha Hollier-James is one of the co-founders of Tour de Cure.  Samantha learned from her mother and Nan that caring for others together creates a strong community and a better life. Her upbringing nurtured her self-belief and her ability to reach out, share ideas, and dream big. When her beloved Nan developed bowel cancer and died, Samantha became determined to forge a movement to cure cancer.

With friends Geoff Coombes and Gary Bertwistle, she co-created Tour de Cure, a charity that has already raised over $158 million and funded 1,228 cancer research, support, and prevention projects.  She has also been a finalist for Australian of the Year.
