Another proposal signalling ongoing change in the Lane Cove West Business Park is heading to the Lane Cove Local Planning Panel, with plans lodged to convert several levels of an existing Orion Road office building into a self-storage facility.

The development application for 18–20 Orion Road, Lane Cove West seeks approval for a change of use from office premises to self-storage units within an existing nine-storey commercial building. Lodged by Interface Planning on behalf of Lane Cove Commercial Park Pty Ltd, the proposal has an estimated value of $4.94 million.
The application includes the conversion of Levels 3, 4, 7 and 8, along with basement levels 1A and 1B, to storage units, internal fit-out works and the installation of a new passenger lift. It also proposes a vehicle access ramp to car park level 3B and the removal of two trees.
The application is being considered by the Lane Cove Local Planning Panel because the proposal exceeds the permitted floor space ratio by 59%. The Lane Cove Local Planning Panel is an independent panel that determines certain development applications on behalf of Council.
While Council supports the change of use and lift installation, it does not support the vehicle ramp or tree removal. No public submissions were received.
The proposal comes as the Lane Cove West Business Park continues to attract development interest and scrutiny. In the Cove has been following the rapid expansion of data centres in and around the precinct since early 2025, including proposals for major new developments and community concerns about infrastructure impacts.
