If you haven’t made it to the Hunters Hill Art Exhibition yet, you have until Sunday!

The 2026 edition is in its final days, open daily from 10 am to 4 pm until Sunday 31 May at Hunters Hill Town Hall. This year drew 526 entries from artists across Australia, with 276 artworks selected for display across painting, sculpture and mixed media — so there’s plenty to take in.
This isn’t just a local art show. Running since 1955, the Hunters Hill Art Exhibition has become one of Sydney’s most respected regional prizes, with a remarkable roll call of artists and judges over the decades — think John Coburn, Grace Cossington Smith, Jeffrey Smart, Judy Cassab and Jenny Sages. It’s the kind of exhibition with real depth behind it.
This year’s major honour, the Hunters Hill Art Prize, went to Drummoyne artist
Helen Oram for her work The Life Guard Chair — a back-to-back win of sorts, having also taken out the regional prize at the 2024 exhibition. She described the win as humbling given the strength of the field, and it’s easy to see why.
Other award winners included:
- Regional Art Prize – Churchill in His Garter Robes, Daniel Dominguez
- Sculpture Prize – We all Have Wings, Leasha Craig
- Watercolour Prize – The Granites Coastline, 2026 – Brian Stratton
- Smaller Works – Evening Sky from Balls Head – Ania Zmijewska
- Nora Heysen Award – Boathouse and Stairs Hunters Hill, 2026 – Karen Presland
Highly commended artworks were also acknowledged during the event, including:
- Hunters Hill Art Prize – Much heard. Less said. – Richa Panicker
- Regional Art Prize – L’Art de la Terre en plein air – Lai Man Pang
- Sculpture Prize – Nickel Back – The Australian Platypus – Simon Treseder
- Watercolour Prize – Lost Voyage – Violetta Kurbanova
- Smaller Works Prize – Between Fog and Memory – Luis Ferreira
- Nora Heysen Award – Tree Story – Pauline Zufferey
Visitors can still cast their votes in the People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards before the exhibition wraps up.
