Australia will observe a National Day of Mourning and a National public holiday on Thursday, 22 September 2022.
Usually when we have a public holiday it is easy for ITC to put together a list of local businesses that will be opened/closed (and when we say easy we still have to contact many local businesses to obtain the information)
In most cases, retail (other than food and groceries is closed) and our local cafes and eateries are open but will have different hours. Most of the businesses we contacted said they will be operating on Sunday hours.
National Day of Mourning Activities
National Memorial Service – Canberra – 11.00 am
A National Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, 22 September 2022, at Parliament House in Canberra.
One minute of silence will be observed nationwide at 11 am on Thursday, 22 September.
Lane Cove
Thursday 22 September, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (public holiday): Lane Cove Locals may leave flowers and sign the condolence book at The Canopy.
Condolence Books
Lane Cove Locals will also be able to sign the Lane Cove Council condolence book at the Lane Cove Library. The books will be sent to Buckingham Palace and archived by the Commonwealth. They may be displayed at its national institutions, forming part of the lasting record of Australia’s close relationship with The Queen over many decades. They will be able to do this on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday this week.
