Agenda: Lane Cove Council Meeting This Thursday

The Lane Cove Council June meeting agenda is a packed one, and we’ve pulled together an article with all the details. Some items to note include:

  • Drag Queen Events in Lane Cove – Funding
  • Data Centres – Better Compliance
  • 2026/2027 Rate Increase – Not a Shock, But Watch This Space
  • Public Forum – Monday Night or Thursday Night?
  • LCC and Region Group – New Facility/Building Manager for Lane Cove Market Square

The Lane Cove Council Public Forum was held on Monday evening. All the details are in our article.

International Make Music Day 2026

Join the global celebration of music with TWO FREE community events across 20–21 June, featuring local musicians, live performances, and opportunities for performers of all ages and skill levels to get involved.

  • Saturday 20 June – The Plaza & The Canopy, Lane Cove
  • Sunday 21 June – Wadanggari Park, St Leonards

Whether you love rock, jazz, pop, classical music or simply enjoy discovering local talent, there’s something for everyone. Read more in our article.

Wadanggari Playground Closed Again Due To Vandalism

Lane Cove Council has announced that Wadanggari Park Playground is now closed until further notice following repeated vandalism that has made the area unsafe.

It’s incredibly frustrating to see a much-loved community asset impacted again and again. This playground was a significant investment for our community and should be a place where local families can gather, play and enjoy the outdoors.

It’s important to note that the closure affects the playground area only; the picnic tables, seating and grassed area remain open for use — which is great for this weekend’s International Make Music Day event.

If you’d like some background on the ongoing issues at the site, including previous incidents and community concerns, read our article here.

If you have any information about the damage, please contact NSW Police or Crime Stoppers as requested by Council.

A Bit Wet At The Car Boot Sale

The Lane Cove Rotary Car Boot Sale was on Sunday 14 June. Unfortunately, due to the persistent drizzle and rain, it was called off mid-morning. Some early birds managed to snap up a few bargains before then.

The next Car Boot Sale is scheduled for Sunday 20 September 2026.

Carisbrook House Open This Weekend

Carisbrook Historic House opens to the public on the third weekend of each month. Locals can take a self-guided tour, explore how people lived in Lane Cove in the 1880s and enjoy Devonshire Tea in the courtyard.

It is one of those Lane Cove treasures that is very easy to mean to visit “one day”. Make this the month you finally do. Read the full article here.

Local Author’s Latest Release

Carers are often the ones holding everything together, but they can also be the ones left feeling unseen and unheard.

Riverview author Sarah Martin, who released the award-winning Dear Psychosis in 2023, has now published Dear Carer, a book for those supporting someone with complex mental health concerns. It is written for the hard days, the small wins and everything in between. Read more here.

Coffee With A Cop

On Tuesday 16 June, representatives from North Shore Police Area Command were in the Plaza for Coffee With A Cop. The event was an opportunity for locals to ask a question, raise a concern or simply say hello. Plenty of locals popped by for a free coffee and a chance to connect with our local police.

Lane Cove Council staff were also in attendance, sharing information about bike and e-bike safety, motorbike safety, car seat checks and support for those teaching learner drivers. Check out the Events section below for some related events this week.

June Update: Northwood / River Road Projects

Works around Northwood Road, River Road and Galuwa Recreation Centre continue to progress. Traffic signal infrastructure at River Road is now nearing completion, with final inspections scheduled this week. Upgrades at the Northwood Road and River Road intersection are also advancing, with asphalt and line-marking works due to be completed late this week. The asphalt works are set to be completed at night on Wednesday 17 June.

Construction of the Fleming Street stairs will resume on 22 June following a temporary pause to accommodate essential powerline clearance works. Read the full update and past project updates here.

Business

Temporary Closure: Vinnies Lane Cove

If you’re planning a visit to Vinnies Lane Cove to grab a pre-loved bargain or make a donation, you’ll need to hold off. Signs at the store direct shoppers and donors to nearby Vinnies stores in Crows Nest, Mosman and North Sydney while works are underway.

We’ll be interested to see what changes are in store when the doors reopen on Friday 3 July.

The survey takes around 10 minutes and closes on Tuesday 30 June 2026, feeding into Landcare Week activities running 3–9 August. Take the survey here.

Anglo Road, Greenwich – Proposed Road Closure

Lane Cove Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to permanently close the northern section of Anglo Road, Greenwich, between Pacific Highway and the cul-de-sac. The road section currently has no through-traffic access and primarily provides access to garages serving nearby Pacific Highway properties. If approved, the area would be redeveloped as public open space while maintaining pedestrian access between Pacific Highway and the lower part of Anglo Road.

Community members can provide feedback by completing the online survey on the consultation page (link below), or via email with the subject line: Anglo Road – Proposed Road Closure SU11254.

Submissions close at midnight on 9 July 2026. View the full consultation details and submit online feedback here.

Just Over the Border: 100 Years of Balls Head & Berry Island

A new exhibition at Stanton Library is marking the centenary of two of the harbour’s most-loved headlands, just over the border in North Sydney. For the People: the centenary of Balls Head and Berry Island Reserves explores the history and ongoing significance of these public spaces, which were dedicated as reserves in 1926 following strong community advocacy. Located on Cammeraygal Country, both headlands feature Aboriginal rock carvings reflecting thousands of years of connection to Country.

The free exhibition features original artworks, rare books and interpretive displays, and is on display at the Heritage Centre, Stanton Library, 234 Miller Street, North Sydney, until September 2026. Free entry, no booking required. More information here.

Commuter Alert: Lower North Shore Bus Disruptions Expected From Thursday

Transport for NSW is warning passengers to plan ahead, with industrial action expected to affect bus services across the Northern Beaches and lower North Shore from Thursday 18 June. Buses are expected to keep running, including services to and from the CBD, but passengers may experience delays, reduced services or cancellations.

Real-time bus tracking may also be limited or unavailable. As part of the industrial action, onboard Opal card readers may be turned off on some buses, which means buses may not appear accurately in travel apps or online journey planners.

In short: your bus may still be coming, but your app might not know about it. The affected area includes lower North Shore services operated by Keolis Northern Beaches, as well as buses starting and finishing in the city.

Transport NSW says it is working with the operator to minimise disruption where possible. Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time, check Transport NSW before leaving and use the Opal Travel app for updates. Road users can also check Live Traffic NSW.

Local Sports

Friday Night Footy

The Lane Cove Hunters Hill Cats’ U12 Henry Cats put on a fantastic display under the lights at Blackman Park on Friday night against the Hornsby Berowra Eagles.

The side combined brilliantly to create plenty of team goals, while their defensive pressure and commitment around the contest were outstanding all game.

It was also fantastic to have injured teammates Jack and Mason on the sidelines cheering the boys on and helping lead the team song after the game — a great reminder that being part of a team is about so much more than what happens on the field.
