Redesign Requested for Development of 300 Burns Bay Rd

Planning NSW has pushed back on the proposed 300 Burns Bay Road towers, telling the developer the three-tower, 225-apartment proposal is overdevelopment and must be substantially redesigned.

However, the developer has now lodged a separate early works application covering demolition, site preparation, bulk excavation and the removal of 32 trees.

If approved, demolition could proceed even if the main development application is still unresolved. Submissions on the early works DA close on 1 July 2026.

Commuters Blindsided by Service Changes

Changes to some Lane Cove bus services began on 21 June. Some locals say they were not properly consulted or clearly notified before they came into effect.

One of the biggest concerns raised with ITC is the change to the early Route 253 service, with the 6.05 am and 6.35 am services merged into one 6.25 am bus. For commuters who need to be in the CBD early, especially essential workers, the question is simple: what is the realistic alternative?

Fire at Trouve Street Garage

Around 4.30 pm a fire broke out in a residential garage on Trouve Street, just off Bridge Street in Lane Cove.

Police, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance attended the scene and the fire was contained. In the Cove received multiple reports during this time of smoke being visible from around the Lane Cove area.

The video we’re sharing was taken before emergency services arrived, showing how intense the fire was in the early stages.

On Monday 29 June Fire and Rescue NSW advised In the Cove that they are continuing their post-incident investigations into the cause of the fire.

Thank you to our roving reporters for helping us to keep the community informed.

Additional Charges Laid in Relation to Kidnapping

NSW Police have charged a second man following an investigation into an alleged kidnapping in Sydney’s north last year. Police allege a man was assaulted and kidnapped at gunpoint at Ryde in June 2025, before later being returned to his vehicle in Hunters Hill.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at Rooty Hill on Wednesday and has been charged with 17 offences. He was refused bail to appear at Mount Druitt Local Court.

Anyone with information that may assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated confidentially.

New Outdoor Gym at Blackman Park…Almost

After months behind fencing, the new outdoor fitness equipment at Blackman Park finally opened.
A Roving Reporter (RR) sent us some photos and we shared the good news.
Then another RR messaged us to say they’d gone down to use it and it was fenced off again. We checked it out ourselves and yes, the fence is back.
We’re not sure if it’s a temporary closure, a final safety check or something else, but if you’re planning a workout, it might be worth checking before you head over. We’re chasing the answers too.

Once open, users can try the pull-up and chin-up bars, gymnastic rings, monkey bars, jump boxes and more, all on fresh softfall right by the river.

The refresh comes out of the Blackman Park Masterplan Update, after locals told Council the old gear needed an upgrade. The gentle mobility equipment near the playground is still there too, so there is now something for every fitness level.

Locals hope the new equipment will be available soon.

Crime, Accidents & Incidents

Stolen Domino’s Bike

On Friday 26 June at around 3.10 pm In the Cove witnessed what appeared to be a group of teenagers riding e-bikes and fat bikes around The Canopy.

During the incident, one individual allegedly took a Domino’s delivery bike and rode off towards the far end of The Canopy near the lifts. We have a clear photo of the individual, however we have deliberately not shown that image because the person appears to be a minor.

We’re sharing this to encourage parents to have a conversation with their children and to ask everyone in the community to keep an eye out. If your child unexpectedly came home with a new e-bike, fat bike or a Domino’s delivery bike, please ask where it came from.

Likewise, if you see someone who appears too young to be working for Domino’s riding a Domino’s delivery bike, please contact NSW Police.

Stealing — Chatswood — 6/6/2026

A 20-year-old woman from St Marys and a 20-year-old man from Penrith are due to face Hornsby Local Court after allegedly shoplifting in Chatswood.

About 3.30 pm on Saturday 6th June, police will allege that the female and male were both in a retail store in Chatswood CBD when they were observed by a Loss Prevention Officer to take multiple items of property. Both parties then allegedly proceeded to leave the store without making any attempts to pay for the items. Police further allege both the female and male placed the stolen items into a vehicle before returning to the retail store for a second time.

Police arrived a short time later and spoke with both individuals. Police had cause to search the vehicle and will allege that during the search they located further stolen retail items from a separate store. The total value of the allegedly stolen property exceeded $2,000.

The St Marys woman and Penrith man were arrested and transported to Chatswood Police Station where they were both charged with stealing offences. The pair are due before Hornsby Local Court in July.

Assault — Chatswood — 12/6/2026

A 45-year-old Killara man has been charged with assault after allegedly assaulting another customer in a fast-food take-out line in Chatswood.

About 12:45 am on Friday 12 June, police will allege the Killara man was waiting in a fast-food outlet in Chatswood, with the victim also standing in line nearby. It will be alleged in court that the Killara man asked the victim to purchase him food, which the victim declined multiple times. Police will allege in court that the Killara man grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed him to the ground before yelling at him. The Killara man momentarily left the area before attempting to confront the victim again, when a bystander intervened and stopped him from returning.

Police arrived a short time later and were initially unable to locate the Killara man. However, whilst police were conducting inquiries, the Killara man returned to the fast-food outlet. Police arrested him, at which time it was discovered he was also subject to multiple outstanding warrants. He was conveyed to Chatswood Police Station for the execution of the warrants and charged with assault.

The Killara man was refused bail and will face Hornsby Local Court in July.

Malicious Damage — Lindfield — 13/6/2026

A 54-year-old Bankstown man has been charged after allegedly attempting to set fire to a vacant building in Lindfield.

About 5.30 pm on Friday 13 of June, police will allege the Bankstown man entered a vacant apartment block and lit fires in at least 2 different ground-floor units as well as another fire in the garden of the property.

A passer-by alerted emergency services after hearing multiple smoke alarms and observing active fires within the building. It is alleged that the witness saw the Bankstown man at the location stating he set fire to it.

NSW Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fires, noting the smell of accelerants and the presence of multiple ignition points. Police arrived a short time later and located the Bankstown man at the location behaving erratically. He was assessed by paramedics before being arrested and transported to Chatswood Police Station.

The Bankstown man has been charged with “Damage property by fire/explosion” and was refused bail. He will face Hornsby Local Court in July.

Located Elderly Female — Neutral Bay / Mosman — 16/6/2026

An 84-year-old Neutral Bay woman with dementia was located safe and well after going missing in the Cammeray area.

On Tuesday 16 June the 84-year-old woman from Neutral Bay contacted a family member, stating she had fallen in the Cammeray area and needed help. Due to her dementia, she was unable to disclose her immediate location and emergency services were contacted.

Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command, with assistance from PolAir, conducted an extensive search of the area. The woman was located about 6km away in bushland near Athol Hall, Mosman, after dark. When found, she was responsive but confused and required assistance. It is believed that she walked from Neutral Bay to the location before falling.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and transported the woman to Royal North Shore Hospital for further assessment.

A 17-year-old Macquarie Fields male has been charged following the recovery of a stolen vehicle from Mosman.

Between 10 pm on Wednesday the 10 June and 6 am on Thursday 11 of June, police will allege a home in Mosman was broken into and a set of car keys was stolen. A white Audi station wagon, which was parked outside the residence, was subsequently stolen.

About 11 pm on Thursday 11 June, police will allege they were patrolling Annandale when they observed the white Audi station wagon. Police conducted checks on the vehicle which revealed it was the stolen Audi from Mosman.

Police stopped the vehicle and the driver, a 17-year-old male from Macquarie Fields, was arrested and searched. Police will allege they located 2 black gloves, a mobile phone and a garage fob key in his possession. Further checks revealed the 17-year-old was breaching multiple bail conditions at the same time. He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged.

The Macquarie Fields teen is due before Surry Hills Children’s Court at the end of June. Investigations into the break and enter are ongoing.
