Lane Cove Girls can play in their own AFL Comp

Lane Cove has a great family friendly junior AFL Club called the Lane Cove Cats. The Lane Cove Cats is one of the fastest growing junior clubs in Sydney and this is thanks to a dedicated leadership team.

Special Registration Fee

The Lane Cove Cats are on a recruitment drive to field an Under 12’s Girls AFL team and they now have a special registration rate to encourage girls to join.

Open Practice Game

If your girls are interested in joining a Girls AFL team then they should come along to Blackman Park this Sunday (26 March) for an open practice game. This session is a great way for kids and parents to learn more about what is on offer and get a feel for the way the games are played. The game starts at 10:00am, so girls should arrive at 9:30 in sports attire!

The Lane Cove Cats have their jumper presentations and multiple games that morning so there will be a sausage sizzle and lots of friendly families around – and of course, plenty of quality footy to watch!

Meet the GWS Giants

To motivate young girls the Lane Cove Cats have arranged for some GWS Giants Women’s AFL team to come to Lane Cove.  Players will tell about their journey to playing at the top level and they will hold a skills clinic. 

How do I register my girl?

Games will be played on Sunday morning, and most likely mirror the same format of the boys junior competition.

The team size is a minimum 9 and a maximum of 12, on a 110m long field (same as U9-11 boys). They will  use a synthetic size 3 ball and play over 4 x 10 min quarters. Tackling is a modified wrap tackle (can’t be brought to ground) and there is no barging, bumping or shepherding allowed. Importantly, a mark is awarded to players who catch it or shows control. So even if it hits the ground, if they held it for a moment, the umpire is likely to pay it.
