This year Mr ITC finally let go of his huge 1980’s speakers that took up half the living room. I know there was a lump in his throat when he took his speakers to the E-Waste Collection. It had to be done as we no longer play our CD’s. Our CD’s sit in a large cabinet that takes up much-needed space. In fact, it is so long since we played a CD that we have forgotten what’s in our music collection. It turns out, we have been downloading albums we already own from iTunes. It was time to rediscover our music collection and create some space.
So how do we go about decluttering our CD collection? My first plan was to throw out Mr ITC’s pub rock collection and best beer drinking songs. He countered this step with threatening to throw out my The Sound of Music album. This was not good. Luckily there was a secret weapon right on our doorstep.

Disc Exodus is a Lane Cove company that will convert (or in techno speak, rip) your CD collection into a digital format (or formats). Our entire 200 CDs (beer drinking songs as well) are now on a USB and on our computer. We like to take long car trips and now we have our entire CD collection in the car on a USB. It’s brilliant. We are not quite so sure Miss ITC is happy with us belting out “Take On Me” and “Africa” as we drive, but hey these are classic and timeless songs for long haul driving.

Why Convert your CD’s?
Now you might think that there is no need to rip your CD’s as there are so many music streaming services available. However, Disc Exodus still believes in having your collection available as:
- You may have rare recordings that aren’t available online You may have specific versions of tracks that aren’t available online;
- You like to browse your collection and choose music as you rediscover it in your collection; or
- You may want to listen to your music on the move – in the car or on your phone, where coverage doesn’t allow for reliable streaming.

So who thought up this brilliant business? It’s a husband and wife team based right here in Lane Cove. Disc Exodus was created after Sue and Alex spent weeks trying to digitise their CD collection. They knew there must be an easier way. After much investigation, they found machines that do most of the hard work for them. Sue and Alex have an IT background, so with their IT experience, and not forgetting, their passion for de-cluttering their lives, they are now making all your beloved music much more accessible!
So it is a win-win. We now have all our music in one place and we can get rid of our entire CD collection.
This service would make a great Christmas present for someone who wants to rediscover their music collection. After all how long does it take you to convert each CD one by one to iTunes? Your answer might be either “too long” or “I started the process a year ago and I have given up”.
