Lane Cove West Public School 75th Jubilee Celebration!

Lane Cove West Public School’s new principal, Sophia Iannarelli, warmly invites the community to celebrate a very special milestone, the school’s 75th anniversary. The celebrations will take place on Saturday 24 October from 2pm to 6pm. Former students, teachers, families and members of the wider community are invited back to the school for an afternoon of celebration, memories and reconnection.

There will be plenty to see and do, with student performances, live music, a petting zoo, food trucks, school memorabilia for sale and displays throughout the school, including the library and the original classrooms.

Established in 1951, Lane Cove West Public School has been part of the local community for three-quarters of a century. Generations of local children have spent some of their most formative years at the school, learning, playing, performing, competing and forging friendships that often last a lifetime. For many who have walked through the school gates over the past 75 years, this will be a wonderful opportunity to see an old friend, revisit a familiar classroom or simply remember what it was like to be a student at Lane Cove West.

Help Us Bring the Past to Life

As preparations for the anniversary celebrations continue, the school is appealing to the community to help uncover more of its history. Are there old school photographs tucked away in Lane Cove West homes that haven’t seen the light of day for decades? Perhaps a faded school report in a drawer, an old uniform in a box, a school badge or a photograph of a class standing proudly outside the original classrooms.

Newspaper clippings, old newsletters, handwritten reports and school artefacts are all welcome, as are items connected with sporting events, excursions, musicals, performances and other special occasions.

Items may be dropped at the school office on any school day after 10am. Digital photographs and other material, including personal stories or recollections, can also be emailed to [email protected].

Every contribution will help piece together the school’s story and ensure the memories of generations past are preserved for generations to come.

Looking Back and Looking Forward

While the anniversary provides a wonderful opportunity to look back, Lane Cove West Public School is also looking towards the future. Visitors to the celebrations will have the opportunity to see the school’s new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) classrooms, which opened in May last year. The new classrooms are a striking reminder of just how much education has changed since 1951. At their opening, then P&C President Kelly Ashford described the new learning spaces as being:

The 75th anniversary is not simply a celebration of a number. It is a celebration of people, the students who passed through the gates, the teachers who helped shape them, the families who supported them and the community that has grown alongside the school. On 24 October, those generations will have the chance to come together once again.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Bring your family. Bring your memories. If you would like to, bring a picnic and a rug to set up on the school oval and enjoy the atmosphere.
