Microbats are elusive. Their small size, nocturnal habits and cryptic roosting mean they’re rarely seen, yet these insect-eating bats live in all kinds of habitats, from waterways and bushland to city parks and backyard gardens. Half of the 34 microbat species found in NSW are under threat.

The Bats in Backyards project relies on citizen scientists to help identify insect-eating bats on their property, building knowledge of these cryptic threatened species.
