A highlight on the Lane Cove Calendar is The Jesuit Mission’s Bazaar held every year in September at St Ignatius College Riverview.
Up to 5,000 people of all ages will flock to the event for a day of activities, bargains, rides, music, shows, raffles, prizes, food, spruiking and all out fun. Although the event is sure to be a crowd pleaser, it is about much more than just entertainment and enjoyment on the day.
All funds raised from the annual event go to support the Jesuit Mission’s community development work in over ten countries across Asia and Africa.
The Jesuit Mission Bazaar is much more than your average fête. It is a tremendous community gathering, with schools, parishes, current and former students, local businesses, and other community groups coming together. They stand in solidarity with people they may never meet but whose lives are transformed by their generosity.
Although the event is held at one school (St Ignatius Riverview), the Bazaar is very much part of the entire Sydney Jesuit community. The school kindly donates the use of its facilities, and the old boys man the famous ham wheel (see below).
Every student at St Ignatius’ College actively participates in running the Bazaar. Many parents and committee members put huge effort into planning, cooking, transporting, manning stalls, and donating goods and prizes. The Bazaar volunteers and supporters truly represent St Ignatius’ call to be “men and women for others.”
Your attendance at the Bazaar will help fund life-changing education programs for girls and boys, provide food and essential services to refugees displaced by conflict, provide healthcare and livelihood training to some of the world’s poorest communities, support vulnerable individuals through pastoral care, and provide emergency relief to communities affected by disasters.
It is a must-do event if you love rides, hamburgers, scones, and much more.

KidsZone and Rides Wristbands

The Rides Wristband provides all day, unlimited access to various carnival rides including Dodgem cars, YoYo, Sizzler, Giant Slide, Haunted House, Cup and Saucer and Swinging Chairs. Each child’s individual size and weight may determine which rides they are eligible to ride.
Parking and Shuttle Bus
Parking will be available at the Regis Campus for a donation, with golf buggies and a shuttle bus running regularly to the Bazaar.
There will not be a shuttle bus running from Lane Cove Village.

History of the Bazaar
The Bazaar began over six decades ago to support six intrepid Jesuits. These young men followed their calling as Jesuit priests to “go where the need is greatest, to go where others will not go.” They departed for a life of devotion to others and began work in the impoverished villages of Hazaribag, India.
After farewelling their ship, the mothers, families and friends of these six men rallied together to create a fundraiser to support their work overseas. This work, which began by teaching a few children under the shade of a tree, has increased over their lifetimes. The Jesuits now educate 27,000 students every year. But the need continues, and so does the Bazaar.
