Military History Talk: Independent Companies and Commandos
Lieutenant Colonel Rod Cooke (Retd) OAM tells the story of Australia’s WWII Independent Companies and Commandos at Lane Cove Library on Tuesday 8 December from 6:15pm to 8:00pm.
These small units were sent to remote Pacific islands to set up outposts and slow the Japanese advance. Trained in guerrilla warfare, demolitions and signals, they went on to fight in Timor, New Guinea and Papua, often cut off from support for months at a time.
The talk is part of the library’s military history series. It is free but bookings are essential.
