This week we are back to talking about COVID19 in Sydney.
The Avalon Cluster has impacted Lane Cove and Greater Sydney.
This is how it unfolded this week in Lane Cove.
Early Friday morning NSW Health advised that a COVID19 positive case visited Roof Rack World at Artarmon.
Late afternoon on Friday 18th December NSW Health advised that a person who had tested COVID19 positive visited Hair by Erika in Lane Village Shopping Centre Lane Cove on 11 December, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Hair by Erika is located on Burns Bay Road – not far from the Lane Cove Post office.
Anyone who attended Hair by Erika during that time is considered a close contact and must get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result. The salon was forced to close, and all staff are isolating.
This led to the following:
- cancellation of the Lane Cove Makers Market on Sunday 20th December 2020
- South Australia declaring that Lane Cove was a High Community Transmission Zone and must quarantine – some Lane Cove residents were in the air when this happened, so when they landed they were told they must quarantine.

New Restrictions Announced on Sunday 20th December by NSW Govt.
Due to the growing risk to the people of NSW from the evolving Avalon COVID-19 outbreak, new restrictions will be introduced for Greater Sydney from tonight to reduce the risk of further community transmission.
From 11.59 pm Sunday 20th December:
- Household gatherings will be limited to 10 visitors (until 11.59 pm on Wednesday, 23 December).
- The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor settings, including hospitality venues and places of worship.
- A cap of 300 people will apply for hospitality venues and places of worship.
- Singing and chanting performances in indoor venues will not be allowed.
- Dancefloors will not be permitted, except for weddings, when a maximum of 20 from the wedding party will be permitted.
People in the Greater Sydney area, including the Central Coast, Illawarra Shoalhaven and Nepean Blue Mountains regions, are also urged not to visit residential aged care facilities, disability services or vulnerable people unless it is critical. This advice will be re-assessed on Wednesday 23 December.
People across the Greater Sydney are also advised to wear masks in indoor settings such as shops and hospitality venues, in line with the advice already issued to those in the Northern Beaches.
‘Stay at home’ orders in place for residents of the Northern Beaches local government area (LGA) will also continue until 11.59 pm on Wednesday 23 December to control the spread of COVID-19. Further clear advice will be provided to the community before Christmas.
Christmas Restrictions
Given the current health situation on the Northern Beaches and taking into account updated health advice from Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant, the Northern Beaches have been separated into two zones, and restrictions have been modestly modified for the Christmas period.
On December 24, 25 and 26, the following conditions will be in place:
For the Northern Beaches peninsula zone (North of Narrabeen Bridge, and east of the Baha’i Temple):
- There is a new reason for leaving home: to visit the home of others who live within this zone.
- Up to 5 visitors (total, including children) will be allowed in homes as long as they reside in the peninsula zone.
- People may not enter or leave this zone, unless for the four approved reasons already in place.
- On December 27, the region will revert to existing restrictions.
For the remainder (southern zone) of the Northern Beaches:
- There is a new reason for leaving home: to visit the home of others who live within this zone.
- Up to 10 visitors (plus primary school children and younger) will be allowed in homes. This may include people from outside this zone, not including the Northern Beaches peninsula zone.
- People who reside outside the northern beaches are allowed to visit others in this zone.
- Residents of this zone may not leave, unless for the four approved reasons already in place.
- We will reassess restrictions in this zone following Boxing Day.
For the Greater Sydney region, Central Coast, Wollongong and Nepean Blue Mountains:
- Current restrictions that were due to expire at midnight tonight will remain in place.
- However, primary school-aged children and younger will be allowed on top of the current 10 visitors cap for homes.
- On December 27, the region will revert to existing restrictions.
Restrictions for Regional NSW remain unchanged.
In addition, as of 1 January 2021, hospitality venues and hairdressers will be required to use the NSW Government QR code system.
Decisions on New Year’s Eve and upcoming sporting events will be made after this Christmas period.
We also want to again thank all those who are in self-isolation over the Christmas period. What you are doing is not just protecting you and your loved ones but everyone in the state of New South Wales.
It is important to remember that COVID-19 is still circulating in the community, especially when you gather with family and friends over the Christmas period.
We are urging the community to continue to play their role in controlling the spread, by getting tested if symptoms develop, practising physical distancing and good hand hygiene, and by wearing a mask, particularly indoors.

Panic Buying
Please do not panic buy – we have a feeling that horse may have bolted after reports that toilet paper is gone from Woolworths and our cover photo shows the trolleys lined up near the Taxi Stand.

Due to COVID19, they had to close the grounds to protect students and staff. The School Year has now finished.
They have now reopened them, and below is more information.
