How to Work With In the Cove

This guide is for new and existing businesses in Lane Cove and nearby areas.

In short

Eligible new businesses may request a free new business alert, but this is a brief community notice at In the Cove’s discretion. General business promotion, products, services, offers, events and campaigns require advertising.

New business alert

Eligible new businesses in Lane Cove or nearby areas may submit information for a free new business alert.

A new business alert is a brief community notice. It is not a full advertising campaign, and inclusion is never guaranteed.

Who is eligible?

  • A new business in Lane Cove or a nearby area covered by In the Cove
  • A valid ABN or ACN
  • Locally owned, locally operated or with a genuine local presence
  • A product or service relevant to Lane Cove residents
  • Submitted through the advertising enquiry form

Where the alert may appear

  • The Week in Review
  • A bimonthly business round-up
  • The In the Cove website
  • Social media, where we believe it is of strong local interest

Placement is not guaranteed and depends on timing, editorial space and local relevance.

Facebook group business rules

Lane Cove Chat by ITC and Kids in the Cove are community discussion spaces, not free advertising platforms for businesses.

  • No general promotion of products, services, sales or events outside approved opportunities
  • No sharing posts from your own business page or social media into the groups unless specifically permitted
  • No posting from or sharing your own networking group, business directory or lead-generation page
  • No content designed primarily to build your business profile or generate leads
  • No repeatedly tagging your own business in recommendation requests
  • Posts in Kids in the Cove must be family, parenting or child-focused

Self-recommendations

Only genuine personal recommendations are allowed in ITC’s Facebook groups.

If someone asks for a recommendation — for example a plumber, tutor, cleaner, gardener, babysitter, tradie, coach, therapist or other service — replies should come from genuine customers or community members only.

No self-promotion, business promotion or “I can help” comments are allowed unless you are a current In the Cove Business Supporter and clearly disclose that in your comment.

Indirect or sneaky promotion

In the Cove may remove posts or comments that appear community-focused but are primarily designed to benefit a business, commercial operator, networking group or self-interested organisation.

This includes using In the Cove’s audience to promote a networking service, business directory, lead-generation group, commercial platform or another group that you operate.

This type of posting may result in immediate removal from the groups.
